Awesome food, the kind of food one would expect to pay top dollar for in a restaurant but instead one gets to pay reasonable prices and eat with your feet up in front of the telly. Highly recommended for those that appreciate good wholesome food and swift pleasant service.

During a visit to Hamilton on Tuesday 22nd May a friend offered to purchase our evening meal from your restaurant. I was so disgusted that I think it is a crime you are continued to be allowed to serve the Hamilton public. 1. The order took over an hour to arrive 2. It was highly overpriced. 3. It was almost warm 4. The incorrect desert order was delivered and when this was pointed out the correct order was refused delivery. In your defence the food could have been very nice if it had arrived in reasonable time and been hot. Rest assured you will never get my custom again and I will make it well known your abysmal and rude service

This is my “go to” place to host clients for lunch or simply catch up for a coffee. It is easy to find and has great parking. The service is very friendly and attentive, but not disruptive. The coffee is “the best” and the food menu is diverse, reasonable and yummy. Highly recommended

Palate Restaurant has ranked as Hamilton’s finest for several years. The menu is always inventive and mouth watering and the recommended wine choice, by the glass, is always successful. The previous venue did not fit the standard of food. Now we have a newly refurbished suite of rooms with a large balcony overlooking the Waikato River. The ambiance is perfect. Elegant intimate, superbly comfortable with acoustics to match. The herb roasted rabbit with potato gnocchi, bacon, celeriac puree, fennel and toasted hazelnuts was a great choice of entree. Tender and multi-layered in taste and texture. For mains we chose honey spiced duck with kumara and coconut puree, citrus cous cous, orange salad and cointreau jus. Duck has always been a favourite, but perhaps this time it seemed a little too rich. However, the angus beef fillet with portobello mushroom, brioche and blue cheese pudding, braised wagyu ravioli and shallot puree was truly wonderful. With the first bite of the perfectly cooked steak I could relax and enjoy all the other flavours and textures. A symphony! An excellent wine list with more than usual opportunity to select wine by the glass. Although this newly sited restaurant has been running for less than a week, the staff knew their jobs and were perfectly capable of answering questions about both the food and wine menus.

Iguana is a great restsurant, I like the combination of sports bar and restaurant. The food is delicious and comes out quick. I have however only given it an A-OK rating because I didn’t like that it was so dark and it was also VERY noisy. The only lighting in the dining area were candles, this made it very hard to see and gave the impression that it wasn’t very clean. The noise made it very hard to have a conversation and counteracted any of the atmosphere the candles could have given.

My partner and I went to Iguana on a busy Friday night with another couple, and left feeling no better off, but no worse off. Hence “A-OK” rating. The noise in there was INCREDIBLE. That restaurant can fit alot of people, we presume that including staff there would have been about 100 people in there which made it almost impossible to have a conversation, and we could barely see each other as it was so dark. The food was good, but not sure it was worth the price (but we were desperate as had made a booking elsewhere which had been given away). However the meals were surprisingly quick for how busy it was, and the staff were really nice, which can be hard to find in Hamilton! I would maybe go back but not for dinner and not when it’s busy!

It has been 5 years since I have been here. I went once for a degustation menu, it was all very lovely food, but it was too long between courses. All in all though a good experience

Me and my friends and family go here often for the $12 lunches and love it every time. The staff are usually very good, one time telling us due to a very large party inside there may be an extra wait on our food (which there wasn’t). The only time we have been let down was when they forgot to give us our menus, although when a waitress served us bottled water 10mins later and noticed we were without, apologised profusely and got them for us promptly. Everything I have tried from the menu has been amazing! The only thing I would change is crispy noodles in the thai beef salad instead of soft ones – but now I’m just getting picky. See you next week.

I had a good experience at Iguana a year or so ago, so have been back several times, each time hoping to have a repeat. I haven’t been so lucky. I recently ordered the Salmon salad. It was all lettuce (dry lettuce too) two small pieces of potato and two small piece of salmon and that was about it. For $20 I really expected more. Each time the service has been shocking with long waits, seemingly no communication between staff (being in our 20′s we need to have IDs checked.. but not 3 times), and the food below average.

We dined at Metropolis for dinner and it was not up to our standards. The wait staff were slow and the overall service was not professional. The breads to start were burnt and not toasted consistently. We had 5 steaks on our table and they were all over cooked. Medium was well done and the rares medium. The chips tasted like they were cooked in 2 week old fat, the kumera chips were cold and the whole table felt the meals lacked seasoning and flavour! Not impressed with the ‘box’ mashed potato as well. We didnt get meal checked at any stage so there was no opportunity to tell staff our concerns. Dessert was ok, massive portions, bit too much for dessert. When we went to pay we were not greeted nicely or asked how anything was, but just told rudely that we could not use entertainment vouchers and that there was a few things left to pay. Not a nice way to farewell customers, we left angry and not wanting to come back. A shame as we have enjoyed dining here before, wont be back in a hurry.

Gothenburg is the best restaurant in Hamilton hands down! (and we have tried them all!) Amazing food and great atmosphere. We shared a chorizo tapas to start and then followed with the fillet steak for a main. Both courses were creative and delicious, especially the veges which had soaked up the Chorizo sausage flavour. We then finished with the waffles (Spanish style) which topped off the meal perfectly. The meals are a perfect size and you feel like you have had just enough. This is what great dining is all about. The question is how soon can we go back!!!
