23/05/2012Went with friends for a birthday party in the evening. Very little in the way of heating. Everyone had to wear outdoor coats. Despite several requests by different people in the group, the heating was not turned up. Very few staff seemd to be on duty. Quality of food was bland in the extreme, the only fresh food being the salad, everything else seemed to be pre cooked. In some cases the food was luke warm when served. Prices far too high for the quality being served. The staff were in the main friendly which really was the only saving grace. Drinks normal quality and price for a bar.

22/05/2012A group of us had an excellent experience at Namaskar today. We couldn’t have asked for more polite or helpful staff. The meals were tasteful and well presented. We had no problem with the decor, unlike the previous reviewer We felt it to be subdued which gave a relaxed atmosphere and unlike many restaurants, the acoustics were good. Overall, a lovely meal. We all said we would be back individually and as a group. Highhly recommended.

04/05/2012I’m not a fan of their signage or their interior decor… but I do appreciate what they’re doing in the kitchen! The curries I’ve had so far… (and I intend to try them all)… the Lamb Booti Masala and Prawn Malabari, were both exceptionally smooth, balanced and authentic. They say they grind their own spices and it must be so… these are not flavors that come out of a can or a jar. The prawns had a popping fresh texture too… a very nice surprise especially considering it was a takeaway dish. Oh, definitely order the special rices… the Pulao and the Coconut… and take a spoonful of them without any curry… they’re amazing. The prices were very reasonable, the service very friendly and sweet. A nice addition to the restaurant scene in the Village… (and it’s never too late to consult an interior designer if they should want to have the contemporary “look” to match their contemporary cuisine… in case they’re listening!)

03/05/2012Only just got around to writing a review, although we dined there earlier this year. It was absolutely heaving on a Saturday lunchtime and we had to wait a while to be seated, mainly because all the wait staff were busy and the desk was unmanned. The menu is mind boggling and far too huge, there are best selling paperbacks with less words. The portions are also very large and while some people think that may be value for money, I’d rather have less on my plate and good tasty ingredients. Our group shared a meat and cheese platter which was fine, but the main courses looked like mass produced, ping-ping meals. I felt like I was sitting in the 21st century version of a Harvester or Berni Inn restaurant with the food to match. With many good cafes and restaurants a minutes drive away in Havelock, next time we’ll drive straight past Off The Track.

03/05/2012With a name like The Coffee Club you’d think you’d be able to get a decent flat white or latte here. Nope! The coffee tastes like it has been made in Oz and brought to your table via a trip on Qantas. Lukewarm, tasteless and slightly oily, which was weird. Even though I left most of mine I had a nasty taste for hours and when the coffee doesn’t taste of anything, that’s even weirder! Their mains are very expensive and the quality poor. The chiller cabinet has a very small range of mass produced baked slices, cakes and a lone muffin, all small and errmmm sweaty. Seeing the chef out the back on a cigarette break puts me right off anyway, so we won’t be back.

03/05/2012This is our go-to breakfast and lunch cafe when in Hastings. They offer a full cafe breakfast/brunch/lunch type menu and have cabinet food as well. They offer three portion sizes of salad and have a good selection, the plum, spinach and feta salad is gorgeous. Graham and his sidekick lady chef are always coming up with new dishes for the chilled cabinet, making the most of fresh and local ingredients. Coffee is always quick to get to the table and consistently made well. They have a good choice of muffins, cakes and slices. The almond croissant is to die for and I would cheerfully get into a fight over the last piece of macadamia nut brittle, which is a new arrival to the bakery section. I find the muffins too crumbly although that’s a personal thing because I like butter on mine and I always end up with a large pile of crumbs here. If there’s a downside it’s that the staff can get a little absent minded or forgetful when it is crazy busy. But I’d rather be in a bustling cafe with atmosphere, than a soulless grave yard one.

03/05/2012First time visit to Diva, I was very impressed with the friendly and efficient service, the ambiance and the food. Lovely fresh ingredients, beautifully presented, thoughtfully combined and adequate quantity at a reasonable price. We will definitely be back.

30/04/2012WOW! That’s all I can say! A most comprehensive delectable menu I have never seen – had great difficulty choosing which dish to have, but eventually went for the potato, bacon & black pudding saute, with tangy tomato relish and an egg atop. Primo! So tasty – and it would also make Ben Warren very proud. My daughter Brooke, very hard to please, chose the smoked mushroom frittata, with a green lettuce and parmesan…a little salty but again the overall flavour was divine. Eden took care of us so nicely, and we were happy to share our large table with 2 passing cyclists when Tuki got busy…at least six cyclists dropped by, and lovely to have the cute outdoor play area for the littlies. Ka mau te wehi – awesome, Tuki Kitchen!!!
