My daughter & I had a meal at the “Whatever Bar & Cafe” on Saturday 5th May which was absolutely beautiful. The service was fantastic the hosts & staff are amazing. We didn’t have to wait long for our meal & it was delicious. I had a Chicken Caesar salad & my daughter had the Chicken & cream cheese with veges & also a desert of the ice cream trio. They made us feel welcome & if ever in Hanmer again we would definately go back & highly recommend it to others. Thank you to the hosts & staff they are lovely people.

Average service and appalling food, after an hour of waiting for our food we received a chicken dish which was overcooked so bad it was chewy and cold with absolutely no flavour at all, it came with no jus and the mash it was served on was so hot it burnt our mouths. With my pizza which arrived soggy and raw in the middle I ordered wedges and I got salad which they then replaced with my wedges that took another half hour. So while eating my meal my partner who ordered the chicken had to wait for another meal because the “cashew and cheese” stuffed chicken was uneatable had to be replaced with another pizza. I specifically asked for the replacement pizza to be cooked and crispy as the pizza I got was wet and soggy, this did not happen as the replacement pizza was just as bad if not worse. When explaining to the wait staff about the food they didn’t seem to interested just the usual apology they probably give out to everyone and off to the kitchen to replace the meal. To charge $36 for a meal that contains one dry, cold, flavorless chicken breast apparently stuffed with cashews and cheese on mash with a spoonful of jus is robbery. We were not the only ones with this problem as the people sitting behind us were having major problems with there order and horrible food. This experience bothers me as last time I came here it was great and this was just a let down. If this was my restaurant I would be majorly embarrassed, fire my whole kitchen staff and start again.

I think this cafe has gone from strength to strength in the last couple of years. The service has always been fabulous, but lately the menu has been updated and the grounds have been improved greatly. A very good place for families, the staff go out of their way to serve you what you need. There is plenty of space, high chairs and a baby change area. For the price, the food and menus for their events and a’la carte dining are all very reasonable. A definite winner for me and my family.
