Best Thai ever. We arrived unannounced during a busy period, they seated us after rearranging the schedule, fussed over us and made lovely food. The chicked meals were especialy good. Great service, great food, great people.

I was 1 of a group of 8 when we dined at Valhalla. The service was excellent and the meal was a great experience. It is fantastic to have a restaurant with a point of difference on the Kapiti Coast. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and will definitely be going back. Well done Craig and Karen. Thanks for a great evening.

Went to Valhalla for Sunday lunch – Three adults and two children. Prompt and very friendly service. Excellent food, Big V venison burger is the best cafe burger I’ve tasted. We will definitely go back and try out for dinner.

WOW what a difference new owners make. These people know how to run a resaurant amd this chef is a real chef. My husband and I had a wonderful night here with family. This chef is top notch, his food and presentation, superb. We were also very impressed with the friendly efficient service. Nothing is a problem to Karen, her lovely, bright personality added to our very enjoyable evening. Congratulations Karen,Craig and your team, you have added a very welcome addition to the Coast I would have given 5 stars if the plastic seats were more comfortable.

We made our booking for Sunday 8:30pm, as we were going to movies.. whilst in the movie we had 5 missed calls. When I spoke with them, they said they had no bookings but ours, and actually said ..”we were hoping you were not going to come”… I said we are on our way be there in five… the soup was lovely but the angel wings were very fatty and greasy… But the icing on the cake was after we paid, we put took two steps away and they turned all the lights out on us .. Very Very rude and we certainly will not be going back… Thai Lagoon is way better….

This is the second time we have eaten here, this time it was very disappointing. The atmosphere and service was still great but the food this time was not. We both ordered the black pudding and bacon stack for $17.50. The black pudding was not cooked long enough and was barely warm in the middle. The Scottish potato cakes it was served on were also under cooked and soggy. I would also have expected to see more than one slice of bacon on a black pudding and bacon stack.

Me and my partner decided to try somewhere new for our anniversary, so we went to Valhalla. We didn’t book, and arrived around 7ish. we were greeted very warmly by the owners and we got to choose our table. a party of 10 arrived not long after us,but our service was still excellent, the food came out quickly and was mind blowing good ( the fish cakes were to die for!) , and the service was top notch!! we even spent some time talking to the staff outside. we highly recommend Valhalla as a lovely evening out!!

My husband and I visted this restaurant a couple of weeks ago and I feel compelled to write a review about our experience. We booked the restaurant as we thought we would give a new establishment a try and it is a pity it did not live up to our expectations. On arrival we were left standing there for sometime before being acknowledged. When we said we had a booking the waiter pointed to a table at the far side of the restaurant and said over there. We woudl have thought that we would have been escorted to our table. On arriving at the table we found there was only one chair. We then had to call the waiter over who asked if there was a problem, I replied that unless my husband was to sit on my knee for the entire evening then we would require another chair. We then waited for the wine list and duly selected a bottle of Otago Pinot Noir. The waiter then proceeded to tell us all about this lovely wine and concluded the sentence with “we dont have any more of that left”. We then selected another bottle of wine and he went away to get it. It finally arrived and our orders had still not been taken. Another couple arrived in the restaurant after us and they received their meal before our order had even been taken. Finally the entrees arrived and looked very appealing. I am sorry to say though that the side salad of coleslaw was undressed and boring to say the least. When the mains arrived the same salad was served again and still unseasoned. Totally tasteless. With my main I did have four selections of meat and chicken but only one condiment to accompany all four different meats. I would have thought that an apple sauce or similar would be served with the pork, a horseradish or similar with the beef and perhaps a mint jelly or similar with the lamb. We then finished our mains and waited sometime to be asked if we would like dessert or coffee to find that we were left sitting there while the owners actually came out into the restaurant and began to eat their meal. Not one person came near us until we started to depart then they arose from their meal to ask us if we would like dessert. Having had sat there for a good 20 minutes we decided we would rather leave at that point than risk sitting there for another 20 before getting coffee and dessert. We felt that the owners could lift their game if they wish to have repeat business from the locals who should be able to expect a little bit better service in what is being marketed as a good quality restaurant. For us to return we would like to be assured that the service levels had lifted.

Have been to this restaurant a couple of times in the last few months. The first time, the service was very slow, but the food was OK. Last visit we ordered the crumbled calamari and this arrived overcooked and greasy. The crumbs were dark brown. Do not think also that the choice of food on the menu is great. We had some enjoyable lunches here about a year or two ago.

ate there very recently, dissapointed as a member of out table asked if the could have an alternative sauce , they were assured yes . when served it was same as quoted on menu …a different sauce was asked for because of allergy … secondly …. the vegetables came out some what burnt … both cauliflower and broccoli burnt brown /black, the courgettes were brown …. the owner rectified this by sending out two more plates of vegetable , but by that stage we had eaten meal what we had … the evening meals too expensive for what is served and the quality

We have been their on four or five occasions and Ian and Maria have never fallen short on the standard of the service, food or atmosphere. As it is our local it is very handy to stop in for a quick drink on the way home and have been blown away by the exceptional standards that we have found each time. We are big fans and will DEFINITELY go their again soon.

wow, definately impressed, nice to find a resturant in kapiti with a point of difference… the stonegrill concept is a refreshing change to the usual kapiti coast menu !!!… great food, and fantastic for those on a low fat or otherwise similar diet and the staff were awesome, service was without fault, more than happy to comply to any changes requested (within menu availablity), lovely atmosphere… was impressed to see the owners of this establishment were hands on, not just leaving it all to there staff, its a nice touch to see them, greeting, meeting and taking an interest in there customers dining experience… we will definately be returning to valhalla, and we will be recommending it to our fellow diners… for sure a must in our books…. loved the outdoor area too, and apparently they have live music on certain sundays… we will be there !!!

Oh my goodness – what a difference new owners make! We were very worried about going back to Valhalla last night, having had a most horrendous experience with the previous owners earlier in the year. But we decided to give the new owners a chance – and we were so pleased we did. Valhalla now has an extensive & very tempting menu but their main point of difference is the stone grill cooking option. Fun, delicious and unique on the Coast I think. The service was lovely – efficient, friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The food – absolutely delicious and plenty of it. These people know how to run a successful restaurant, and really know what customer service means, their predecessors did not have a clue. So pleased Valhalla is at last living up to its great potential.
