Always good food and reasonable prices. They never let us down. We went again today and it is exactly the same quality of food and service like every other time we have been to it. The prices have hardly changed for the last 18 months, contrary to most restaurants in Auckland. It is absolutely excellent!

Have just visited this restaurant with a group of friends and could not fault it for service, atmosphere and quality of food. The wait staff were excellent and anticipated your needs prior to you! Food was fantastic and there was not one grumble amongst our group, some of whom are fussy eaters. Sadly it was not BYO and naturally prices were reflected in the bill total.. All in all a very enjoyable evening was had by all. Wouldn’t hesitate to return on another occasion.

My first time there today – wasn’t impressed by the place or the food. The food came around fast, which was good. Quality of food, not so good. The crisp pork was served cold… yuk! We weren’t given or told were sauces were ? ? ? Hard to understand the ladies, when describing each plate. The ladies clearing the tables were loud, throwing dishes and cultery onto the trays, that’s rude in some cultures. The place needs a serious makeover, as it looks rundown, old and dirty, not a good hygiene look – even glancing into the kitchen was messy. Me thinks – not to return there, try another Yum Char place, pity coz it was my first Yum Char lunch =)

Went on Mother’s Day on the strength of previous reviews. As it turned out, there was set menu for Mother’s Day (which I hadn’t been advised of when booking) but as it turned out the options were fine with us. Dessert however was disappointing, being a rather pedestrian bought-in chocolate cake which we wouldn’t have ordered so that was a bit of a shame. The choice of something else or cheese and biscuits would have been a better option. The Gibson only opens from 3pm so unfortunately the place was deserted when we ate there, most people having already celebrated Mother’s Day at lunchtime. I think that the owners should consider opening at lunchtime for these sorts of days otherwise they’ll have more staff than customers in the dining room – as was the case during our visit. The owners should also explain to waiting staff that it is not correct to clear away the empty plates from one diner while others at the table are still eating. This is a common fault with many restaurants. In spite of the minor gripes, the food that was served (with the exception of the dessert) was excellent and the staff friendly and attentive. We’ll definitely be back

Went back recently after vowing never to go again about 2 years ago as the noise and service then was horrific! But we had a lovely meal and there is now a carpet on the floor so we could hear conversation. Would now return again soon.

This is our local and we get a takeaway probably once a week. I love the food and rate it as one of the best and most consistent I have ever been to. The interior is not flash but it is what it is. One improvement (and the only thing that prevents a 5 star rating) would be to invest in a warmer to keep the food warm rather than leaving it in bags on the floor behind the counter to get cold if you’re a bit late. Otherwise top marks.

We went to this restaurant in January for a birthday – the food is yummy its not overly expensive and the waitress is friendly. We have been back several times since then and had 1 lot of takeaways as well. The staff are friendly the place is small, they do get very busy some nights so book ahead. The cost is minimal compared to a lot of restaurants and the food is quickly prepared and huge portions. If you love Chinese food this is a good place to go.

We visited The Shack last night for a Birthday Meal as a party of 8. We had a lovely table by the window with a beautiful view. The waitress was warm and welcoming, and very attentive to our needs. When the food arrived, it was beautifully cooked, and well presented. The portion sizes were more than adequate, with everyone having nice full tummys!! We were always well looked after, and never had to wait for drinks to be replenished etc. Fantastic place, and we will definately be returning for another fabulous meal. Would recommend whole-heartedly!

Been there at least 3 times, never had a bad experience. But occasionally if they are busy the service can be a little slow, but nothing major. They messed up my order once but again nothing major and they were quick to sort it out, and discount us. The food is really good, and the option to create your own salad or pasta is also really good. Well worth a try.

Nice quiet cafe, good friendly staff. Reasonable food, but I think it’s a bit pricey for the portion of food. Always clean and tidy.

So totally agree with all the previous reviews. Bad place guys…. This place should be closed down already. The food is disgusting, not worth the money you pay. Worst of all the bloody car park, we dined there two weeks ago (May 2012) and four of our family vehicles got broken into, took valuable stuff. Even got our kids car seat and boost seats – bloody lowlife punks!!! And, and the Police didn’t want to know about it, cause it’s not serious lol that the Police for you… karma will get you.

Food totally different from the pictures on the menu. Some of our food came out cold. Don’t know why we were isolated away from the rest of the restaurant that day. The staff that looked after us, got fed up with us, being a big group with heaps of different wants. Not seeing me/us there again =(

Dined there 27th Dec 2011 with a family of nine adults, one child and one infant. A very pleasant evening with wonderful Thai food. Excellent quick service from friendly staff. Food turnover was fast, despite a very busy night. Good fair food portions for the price. Wonderful all round, definitely be back.

Had a birthday dinner there Tuesday 22nd May 2012 with family, five adults and one infant. I booked our table three hours before arriving, only to find when we got there, they had to orgainse a table for us, while we waiting… so what’s the point of ring in for. The table was situated by the door, which brought in a draught everytime it opened. Staff service was fairly friendly. The food was okay, portions were a bit smaller compared to other Thai restaurants we been too. The fruit salad for dessert was disgusting, it’s like eating rubbery fruit. It was a first time there, we much prefer other Thai restaurants, so we won’t go back there again anytime soon.

Had a groupon voucher for value of $330 . The limited menu that was offered was limited. The quality of the food was so poor that we struggle to give this place even one star. As it was the voucher cost $130 but did not even supply us with $80 worth of food. We left hungry and disappointed. Even the waitperson said the chef uses smaller portions and lower quality meat for the voucher users. To us this defeats the purpose of the voucher system which is to entice new customers. Whilst the decor was pleasant and the service was friendly, the food was a major let down. Our recommendation to you all is to save your money and eat elsewhere. Our prediction is that the current chef and owner will not have a business in 6 months which is a real shame as it has the foundations to be something great for local diners. The restaurant around the corner offers tasty food to die for……that’s where we will be going next time.

Pretty yum food although service is soooo slow. I rang the bell about 5 times before someone came. They also took away the satay roll which was my favourite. Its not really a resturant but more of a diner so you cant expect much but for the most part, its reasonably priced. The curly fries are a winner

I am in love with this resturant. I’ve dinned here at least 7 times and its sooooo yum. Every dish I’ve had has been amazing. You seriously cant go wrong. The service is great too. Very polite and welcoming.

We recently stayed at a motel during an overnighter in Auckland. On arrival we asked where we could get food. The only suggestion was to give us a photocopied menu for the Bar & Baa restaurant. I was told if we phoned they would deliver. It was cold, dark and wet and we had no vehicle so we took that option. I had been sick before our flight from Melbourne and was still not feeling like eating much on the menu so narrowed it down quickly and then phoned the over through before 7pm. I asked for an entree of lightly battered fish and julienned vegetables, wedges, tomato juice plus my husbands meal. I was told it would be with us in 15minutes. We waited for over half an hour (which was okay but not what we were told) before a van arrived and our meal was delivered. Unfortunately I had paid on the phone and I didn’t check the meal before the driver left. Upon opening I was horrified to see I had been sent caesar salad and not the fish entree. I hate ceasar salad at the best of times, but my still sensitive stomach heaved when I opened the box. I phoned the restaurant and told them of their mistake. He said he would see what he could do. On checking my account I saw they had charged me for the salad which was more expensive than the fish. I was phoned back a few minutes later and told that the driver had already gone home – yeah right! I was so over it all I just hung up and let my husband eat the salad. I would NOT use this restaurant again.
