20/05/2012A friend and l had dinner there a couple of weeks ago, I had heard that is was under new management since i last went which was an awesome experience, but this visit was definitely different. The food was awesome, decor fab, staff vary helpful/pleasant; but we seemed to be over approached making it x4 while just waiting on the comfy couches, hard to make conversation. It was quite chilly being taken away from the lovely open fire. The table wasn’t covered and had scratches and just looked awful (and no it wasn’t the shabby chic look). I know that staff are probably just doing what they’re told taking cutlery away if you don’t order a wine or starter but honestly the table was really bare. With all said l will definitely go back as the chef’s food and presentation was excellent.

17/05/2012Wow, what a fantastic experience and not the usual curry house I am used to! Great atmosphere and especially like the fact(I presume) they had created their own winelist without the price being over the top. The food was fantastic. The Samosas are made on site I was told and they were so fresh and tasty. And a great twist on the onion bhajis too. Then, the main of Lamb Jhalfrezee was something I would recommend to anyone. So tender, so good. And the plates were warm! The presentation of the food was also very creative which left a great impression. We were visiting from Christchurch and the meal was so good we went back for lunch the next day!

16/05/2012I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Thai food. I have tried many different Thai dishes, and would have to say I rate this as being one of the best Thai meals I have tried. Authentic flavours, very fresh, quality ingredients. The Thai beef salad was amazing!

14/05/2012Eagerly awaited the opening of this trendy new all-day dining spot in Napier… Took Mum and Dad for an impromptu Mother’s Day lunch and Prue warmly welcomed us at the door and led us to a spare table, despite a blackboard stating “20 minute wait”… Great buzz in the room, wait staff efficient and slick open kitchen… Loved the table settings, complimentary bread and olive oil. Mr D house White (Chardonnay) was delicious and the Stoke beer on tap was refreshing. Ordered the braised duck risotto, pulled pork with white polenta and spaghetti with clams and pesto. A real taste treat! Mister D is full of personality and we look forward to our next dining experience… Well done!

13/05/2012Went to Cafe Ahuriri on our first trip to Napier. We went after reading that the cafe’s custard squares were mentioned in the New York Times. I honestly cannot say that the custard square was anything to rave about, but we also had lunch and that was really delicious. I had corn fritters, and they were the best I’ve tasted-full of corn, not flour and well seasoned. I would definitely recommend the cafe for a delicious meal. Also the woman who served us was very helpful and friendly. It was actually the best service we had in Napier, so thank you for making our meal an enjoyable experience.

13/05/2012We went to Restaurant Indonesia on our first trip to Napier. Tried the rijsttafel, which was very interesting and tasty. It was more food than I could finish. I also liked the four condiments that came with the meal. The restaurant is worth a visit for something different.

12/05/2012Amazing evening at Mister D in Napier. Food out of this world, but not surprising as designed and delivered by David Griffiths and Prue Barton ex Vinnies fame and recently from Craggy Range and Black Barn in the Bay. Atmosphere great, staff friendly and welcoming, food and wine to die for.

12/05/2012We really enjoyed our meal. Lovely decor and excellent service. The ‘pulled pork’ was delicious and the duck risotto superb. We also paricuarly enjoyed the dressing on the green salad… I want that recipe! Thank you for a lovely evening.

12/05/2012A relaxed setting and knowledgeable host made it an enjoyable and gluten free dinner. “Heck gluten free is easy” said our host, “tomorrow I am providing a sugar and salt free meal.” A courageous host, excellent food.

12/05/2012With great anticipation we entered hoping for lunch. There were several free tables, though we were told we needed to wait – No menus to view. Several other groups came in and were seated by different staff – we questioned whether we could be seated but no – Prue said the people she seated were her friends. I should have expected an icy reception with Prue running the team out front! Miscommunication and a team that couldn’t cope with a lunch time rush let this place down. Not even seeing the menu I can’t comment. Though seeing the faces of other impatient customers was enough. Such a shame Napier! Fix up your service and remember your customers are why you’re there – not merely to be another hospitality socialite.

11/05/2012It was nice location & good atomosphere restaurant. I orderd 2 pizzas & pasta 2 go for my family on Sun. But when I opened the box, we were so shocked. One of the pizza was over cooked. Other one was looks poor. The pizza base has got burn… Also the pasta sauce was very waterly. The taste were nothing speciel . We were very disappointed. We went back to the shop next moring to refund. But the shop was closed. We left un-eatable pizza with memo @ front door. But until now No contact. They ignored…. We never come back to such a shop.

10/05/2012This new spot just up Tennyson from Marine Parade is a welcome addition to the Napier dining scene. The restaurant is well lit by a large skylight and has comfortable seating both in and out. I stopped by for a late morning brekkie and had a coffee and ricotta slice with “drunken” fruit that was both refreshing and delicious. Can’t wait to stop in for dinner and try the potato Gnocchi with coffee grounds on the Bar Menu or the other tantalizing mains on the lunch and dinner menu. Welcome to the Hawke’s Bay ‘hood’!

09/05/2012I’d read positive reviews and was eager to try GKE. The building is a lovely old bungalow with arched windows and ornate ceilings in the front areas. Very friendly staff and the very good coffee and (leaf) tea was delivered promptly, but we had to wait 35 minutes for our meals and the food wasn’t overly hot when it arrived. The people at the next table sat down after we did and got their meals before ours. The food was very tasty and plentiful and we will probably try GKE again, but it was a long wait on a not-too-busy late morning and would have been a rush if we’d had to get back to work.

07/05/2012My partner and I had the absolute pleasure of dining at this restaurant on Saturday the 5th of May. We were part of a larger group celebrating his daughters 21st, and we could not have wished for a better place to do that! The first positive was the venue itself – what a superb setting and location. The area they had arranged for us was set perfectly with fairy lights and tealights on the tables creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. To add to this each member of staff we dealt with was professional without being standoffish. Some of us actually felt we were laughing and chatting with old acquaintances! Then came the food – WOW!! We had a set menu with a choice of either chicken, fish or steak. At our table we tasted some of each meal and would’ve happily had a sample plate of each as it was hard to say which was the best. I can honestly say we could not find fault with ANY part of the entire experience and would recommend this restaurant without hesitation!!
