13/05/2012Went to Cafe Ahuriri on our first trip to Napier. We went after reading that the cafe’s custard squares were mentioned in the New York Times. I honestly cannot say that the custard square was anything to rave about, but we also had lunch and that was really delicious. I had corn fritters, and they were the best I’ve tasted-full of corn, not flour and well seasoned. I would definitely recommend the cafe for a delicious meal. Also the woman who served us was very helpful and friendly. It was actually the best service we had in Napier, so thank you for making our meal an enjoyable experience.

04/05/2012Ujazi is perfect for sun lovers who want to sip their coffee while people watching or looking at the art in the gallery window. Ujazi does get very busy and sometimes there is a wait for meals, although they tell you this when you order. They do have a good chiller cabinet selection of slices, cakes and panini type quick lunches though, if you can’t wait. I think they’ve slimmed their menu down lately, which is a good thing because you got neck ache before, trying to choose while looking up. There was just too much to read while in a queue for ordering. The coffee here is excellent, the carrot cake yummy and food good and fresh. The only downside is having to sit outside in gloomy weather because the inside is full. If you have to sit outside then, choose their porridge with cream and sugar and everything will be alright in the world. Ujazi is that popular that the cafe over the road must be wondering where they are going wrong.

30/04/2012On the 29th April 2012 we celebrated our grand daughters birthday at your restaurant. We were in a party of 9 adults and 2 children and were very disappointed with the quality and quantity of the food. One of our party ordered a shrimp cocktail as an entree and the dish came out with only 6 shrimps and the rest was full of lettuce. When she complained the reply came back that the chef said that the cocktail had enough shrimps on it. Later that evening the waitress re-reimbursed the money that had been paid for the shrimp cocktail. Also my wife and me ordered the scallop mains at $24.50 each and received only 5 scallops on each plate. As this is a meal we regularity order at different restaurants we felt for the price we were ripped off. Question: as only 4 of the 10 scallops had the orange tongue was the other six scallops real? Also they were under cooked. We will certainly be telling our friends about our experience and unlikely to return to your restaurant.

27/04/2012Food is well over priced and a flat white coffee is just that flat no milky froth onto. Smile and greet your customers it’s not hard to do. And as for the young girl cleaning the tables Wow cheer up. Sorry I will not be returning to your cafe with my friends again that was rather embarrassing today. And the lemon and strawberry slice was that solid I could not even cut it with a knife had to use my hands. It was like it had just came out of the freezer it was hard as a rock and hard to swollow
