24/05/2012Very nice place, has that X factor where all elements combine to result in an optimal mix of experience, one of the places I miss most about Nelson, I have eaten here on 50 or so occasions and may have had perhaps one or two off meals, but realistically this place delivers a good meal at a good price with good people doing the work. Would recommend to anyone passing through Nelson for a casual meal , either Breakfast or Lunch.

17/05/2012After moving from South Africa I went to several restaurants in the area and when Rob Roys opened in Richmond I went to see what they have to offer. Since then I could not control myself to not eat there at least 3 times a week. From brekkie to lunch and dinner, the whole range is superb and the value for money is excellent. A friendly atmosphere and happy faces always welcomed me. For those who wanna try real fresh food go and see what they have to offer, you would not be disappointed. Take time out and relax after all we only live once on this planet. Thank you “Guys” for always being on top of your game.

16/05/2012Took my parents to Mango because mum and dad loves Malaysian food and they were here on holiday from Auckland . 15minutes after we ordered, we were told that the waitress forgot to pass our order to the kitchen!!!!! Waited for another 20 minutes for our meal . My chicken fried khey teow (flat rice noodle-stir fry) was bland and served in a medium potion on a boring plate (chicken, lamb or beef only ) my mum’s noodle dish was bland and dry not much meat and vegetables , dad’s korma was acceptable, overall very pricey for the same type of food that ‘Noodle Canteen’ would easily top in taste and price . Value for money ? no. Service and presentation below average and poor. Bring back ‘Malaysian Spice’ restaurant please.

15/05/2012Well I live in Nelson and this is the only cafe regularly go to. The food is excellent, the staff are excellent and the atmosphere is excellent. My only issue is that if you go in the middle of the day on a weekend the seagulls can be a bit of a menace but being that its at the beach they do a pretty good job of keeping on top of it

13/05/2012We are back home in England now but can’t wait to return. This cafe was a little treasure we went nearly everyday and can’t wait to return. Well worth a visit. We enjoyed everything we ate but the pancakes, they were to die for. The staff were extremely efficient and very friendly. All in all we had excellent food, service and coffee. It can get very busy at the weekend but we will definitely be back. You must try the slices.

07/05/2012Visited yesterday for lunch. All the dishes looked very appetizing, it was hard to decide what to have! I decided on kumara and zucchini cake and my friend had the salmon on potato rosti. The cakes and slices also looked tempting and I had the almond and orange cake with my friend having the blackcurrant oaty slice. The food was delicious, especially the blackcurrant slice yummylicious! We both found the waitress to be really friendly and bubbly despite it being very busy. Recommend this place.

01/05/2012Received the most appalling service at this place during a Monday breakfast. Made the terrible sin of not booking in advance and boy did we pay for our error! Despite only three occupied tables, our party of four was squeezed onto a table for 2. Several larger tables remained completely unused during the entire time we were there! The breakfasts we were served were just average, and on the expensive side. For example, the pancakes are $16.50 for 3 small pikelet sized pancakes. We were checking out this cafe in advance of some fortnightly business breakfast meetings we need to schedule, thank goodness we didn’t just go ahead and book them. Needless to say we will be taking our business elsewhere. Melrose house cafe you would perhaps be wise to remember not to judge a book by it’s cover, no paying customer deserves such rude and dismissive service.

01/05/2012We had a very pleasant experience. The staff were very friendly with a delightful happy attitude. The food was very nice (my 10yr old loved the Thai Chicken). The place was very clean and the chocolates looked to die for. A nice variety for a small cafe ambience

30/04/2012This has to be my favourite restaurant in Nelson. We live 45 minutes away, so only eat there every couple of months, but I take every opportunity to call in. Good range of authentic German food, it all looks and tastes very home-made, great flavours, and large portions. It is a very small 2-3 person team there, and they always make you feel like special guests, and seem really delighted when you compliment them on the meal. The Roulade is yummy, and I find it hard to try the other dishes, though I always feel that I should do! The Black Forest Gateau is so unlike the usual mass-produced variety – it is the best item on the menu. They are moving into central Nelson over the winter, so will beclosed for a couple of months. Worth waiting for though.

28/04/2012Took a trip to Cable Bay a little while ago and happened upon this wee gem, the staff were very friendly and the food we ordered was lovely. The windy road in was not the best and left me a little green around the gills on this occasion, take it easy if travelling with kiddies! Thumbs up for the Cable Bay Cafe.

28/04/2012Go and check them out if you are in town and don’t want to pay the earth for good honest food like some of the franchises nearby charge. Feel free to offer your feedback to the owner, we did and she was very open to suggestions. Happy dining at The Last Great Kiwi Cafe

28/04/2012Superbly fresh, authentic Japanese. Great value for money on the sashimi sampler for fish lovers. Big succulent prawns tempura and black pepper calamari melts in mouth. We also tried some Japanese pickles for the first time which was not my cup of tea, but would take some getting used too.
