A fantastic meal! The steak & guinness pie was lovely, featherlight pastry, filled with succulent steak with no fat or gristle, Chris had the garlic steak which he was very happy with and said it was cooked beautifully. Both meals came with lovely fresh salad and perfectly cooked crispy fries. A lovely tranquil setting and friendly owners completed a fine lunch. We will be back for sure, great value for our $ too. I lot of friends have recommended the Pita Pit, so I gave it a try. It was OK, and I cant really say anything bad about it, was clean and the service was fast and friendly. I just was not impressed with the food, very bland and small servings of fillings. Still many people appear to enjoy it, just not me.

Very nice Thai restaurant , clean and friendly yet casual. The food is always well cooked and fresh tasting, they appear to have a really professional team in the kitchen, also very well priced for what you get. Great place to take the family.

Went here to check it out as the new place in town. Ordered a milk shake and a Schnitzel which came with shoe string fries and gravy. The shake was well not either bubbly, thick or cold, the fries were a little salty for my liking and the gravy that came with the Schnitzel appeared to be packet gravy, not very impressive for the price. The one two redeeming elements about this place they do have right are friendly well trained staff, and good coffee ( I have had three now and they have all been of a high standard ), will revisit and give this palce one more chance on the food side soon.

Really nice place for a cold beer late at night, nice to see such a great venue actually open into the wee hours during the week. Also good to see a bar with out poker machines!! The snack menu is also very nice and unlike most bars in town actually available into the wee hours. We have made a habit of popping in for a late night drink or two. The wee bald man who runs around the customers all excited like Tattoo on Fantasy Island is classic, ” The plane ,, The plane !! ” is classic and takes it upon himself to make everyone feel like a first class passenger on his personal cruse ship. Seriously the friendliest bar in town, every one who works there is genuinely happy to see you, will be back again !!

Agree with other reviewers this place is a hidden treasure in Palmerston North, well priced food, nice owners and staff. Relaxed format , just being its self. Very cool and very nice food. Would recommend to anyone cruising Broadway looking for a cheep and cheerful Asian meal.

A clean little format, healthy food, friendly staff, a little light on flavor ( even when you try really hard to construct a tasty wrap ) i.e. the olives taste cheep and watery, and the dressings seam to be similar to subway. Also not overly impressed with the pricing, very expensive for what you get. Still I will agree better than subway, but a log shot and reasonably healthy.

I popped in for a $10 lunch recently, ordered the lamb vindaloo which was well cooked, well seasoned. More importantly the rice was freshly cooked and cooked perfectly. The Indian tea I enjoyed was also very nice. The wait was no longer that 5 minutes, so I will most likely visit again to try another dish.

Was dragged here by a work group against my will, but gave it a shot in good faith. Service format is a bit casual for some, but fair enough given the pricing ( which is reasonable ) menu would have been cutting edge in 1987, but not very interesting now. I went for the fish and chips, which were very greasy when they arrived and over salted. Did not finish my meal, however given the majority of our table were happy I’ll give them three stars.

Hadnt heard about this cafe until it came up with an offer on “GrabOne” so thought I’d grab one and check it out. Had their “Local” breakfast and grapefruit juice, loved the decor, friendly staff and great atmosphere. Their breakfast was delish! Highly recommended. Have rated and mentioned to friends/family.

Went there last week – Definitely returning back! Great coffee/hot chocolates. Great value for their French Toast Breakfast and was enjoyed by all. We’re heading back with our volunteers group to shout them breakfast there this Saturday due to their great atmosphere, able to seat and cater for a big group, and their fab value for money which is affordable for our group. Thumbs up to Rumour has it cafe and their friendly staff!! 25/5/12 – Went back for breakfast with a family member this morning, had the All day Breakfast with Hot Chocolate, absolutely delish, the meal was nice and hot along with the Hot Chocolate (had requested hot hot chocolate) – no faults at all, thoroughly enjoyed the overall breakfast. Highly recommended! Great cafe!

What a great restaurant! My boyfriend and I went to El Gusto on a spur of the moment decision. The restaurant was empty except for us, but we didn’t mind as it was a Sunday and quite late. The service was excellent from the beginning, although it did take them a minute to see that we were at the counter. The ambiance was great, with good music and wonderful decor. We got complimentary sangria and corn chips, which my boyfriend loved as he likes free things. :P I couldn’t eat the chips as the sauce had beef in it (I’m a vegetarian), but he said that it was very nice, and the sangria was great. We got the ‘to share’ order, which included two margaritas, two enchiladas, two burritos, one chimchanga and a dessert to share, all for $69. The chef was lovely, and even though the chimchanga didn’t come as a vegetarian dish, he made me one up on the spot. That brightened my whole night! The food was lovely, with lots of cheese and spice. I don’t like hot food generally, but this was the perfect amount for me to keep eating, and the boyfriend, who likes hot food, also enjoyed it. The dessert, lemon tart, wasn’t overly nice, but it was edible. It wasn’t lemony enough for me. And the margaritas were wonderful! Overall, a great experience and I will be back.

Truely Indian taste. I, being Indian lady, am very fond of Indian food. I am a great cook too, and have taste buds which wants specific blend of spices in curry. When I was pregnant, the thoughts of Indian paneer curry always tempted me. We explode all the Indian restuarants and takeways but the taste was missing, they all were sweet in taste, that’s not how Indian food taste. So one day, we were passing by, and we show it and thought to try, believe me I had no expectation, completely given up. But, just want to try once again, we ordered the paneer curry, and specifically mentioned “no sugar”, puls Indian way, the chef laughed and said just try it. Yummy!!! Real Indian curry. Ever since then, Mirch Masala is the only Indian Takeway in our list.. I request to all of you, try Indian curry mentioning No sugar here, really yummy. The cauliflower stuffed Nan are our favourite..Try them.

Tomato is a fantastic cafe/restaurant which I believe should be held in high regard for its innovative decor – being bright, very ‘kiwiana’ and a dose of eye catching individuality bought into the hospitality scene! It’s not just the presentation of the premises that brings me to the conclusion I would be more than happy to regularly dine here as I believe in not judging a book by its cover, so to enlighten those people who have not had a Tomato experience yet: The Italian style cuisine is amazing. Portioned well, value for money and very gratifying. My menu choice had consisted of a yummy Garlic Bread (which just tastes that much better on ‘pizza’ base), Blue cheese and bacon pizza – total taste bud delight as the flavours worked perfectly with a lovely glass of Red Wine. This all followed by Creme Brûlée for desert which literally melted in my mouth and a latte – I’m pretty fussy on my coffee’s and will even be stopping here from now on yo get my ‘coffee to go ‘ on the way to work. The service was also very pleasant which consisted of a lovely, smiley and very efficient waitress. I didn’t have to wait long between ordering and waiting to have food bought to my table, big plus to the chef!  The atmosphere was enjoyable and I very much liked to the location, a great setting in the one of the busiest cafe streets in the heart of Palmy.  Anyway, thank you Tomato, it’s nice to see someone taking a step outside of the square and offer people something new by all means.  My experience will definitely be 1 that I intend to repeat!

Tomatos has the best food, coffee and atmosphere for any occasion. It’s a great place to meet up with friends and we love going for a romantic meal for two including red wine and a beer served in a classic kiwi Quart Bottle that brings back some great memories! Here you can get the best gnocchi in town and warm chocolate fondant that is the best way to end a great dinner. Stop in for brunch and lunch on weekends, our favourite pizza is bacon & blue cheese and the coffee is always excellent. I’ve taken work colleagues for social and working lunches (one of which had to get out of the corporate environment so she could think straight) Tomatoes is just like a home away from home! Sometimes they have private parties upstairs including events that support local businesses. On a nice day enjoy the sunshine and a cool drink sitting outside at the quaint tables and chairs complete with checked tablecloths. Be sure to check out the entertaining walls in the bathrooms you might just get a history lesson while you are there too.

Over time, I have been to a lot of cafes in a lot of places. In my opinion, Tomato Cafe is one of the best I have had the pleasure of being in and it is my local regular. Firstly, it is very clean and tidy (including and perhaps especially the toilets). The visual and acoustic ambiance is superb. Secondly, the staff are very friendly and very professional. I have never experienced any difficulties with getting my order. Thirdly, the coffee, which is what I personally rely on most to rate a cafe, is absolutely first rate. However the food is also just as good and represents excellent value for money. The range of Pizzas are particularly innovative and tasty. If you live in Palmy or are planning on visiting here, I really recommend that you try Tomato Cafe for a great coffee and/or culinary experience. Bon appetit!
