24/05/2012When I visit a cafe just for coffee, I don’t usually write a review, unless it is unusually good or abominably bad. Several times I’ve dropped into Ritual for coffee and a scone/muffin/cookie and on each occasion I’ve come away with a warm feeling. The place has an X factor, an ambience – partly but not only because of the friendly, attentive staff. The coffee is as good as it gets (in my opinion). The food is always fresh and tasty, even at 4pm. And another thing: as a long or short black drinker, I resent being expected to subsidise those who prefer flat whites, lattes, capuccinos and other milk based concoctions. Thankfully many (but not all) cafes seem to have moved away from a “one price fits all” policy and do charge a little less for the no milk selections. To Ritual’s great credit, they go further than most, charging only $3.00 for a short or long black but $4.50 for a flat white, latte etc. User pays, as it should be. Well done, Ritual Espresso! Even without the price differential, if I lived and worked in Wanaka I would be an every day customer. It just feels right.

23/05/2012As fans of Josh, we were keen to try out his new venture in Queenstown. We ordered the Bite menu of cured meats for an entree to share. When it arrived we were quite surprised by the lack of imagination & finesse of the dish, although quite tasty the portions were tiny & the presentation quite amateurish, that we comment on how Josh would have reacted had we served this up to him on an episode of Masterchef! The mains arrived & unfortunately they were both only just luke warm. The Beef fillet was delicious, but the side of mash was cold, and the blue cod was dry. We did mention to the waitress that our food was cold, & they did take off the side dish from our bill. Overall would we return, maybe, but disappointed in the experience.

17/05/2012Had coffee here with family the other day, was pretty average tasting & luke warm. The place was empty but it took a while for the female waitress behind the bar to notice us, she didn’t seem interested in taking our order while other male staff members stood behind & around the bar chatting away without acknowledging me standing there waiting to order! Don’t waste your time here.

12/05/2012Visited Prime on 5th May, and while the restaurant was well presented, and the wait staff. The service we received wasn’t the best. Me and my gay partner were served by a gay male who seemed to have an issue with us, and we felt some negative vibes. I ordered a glass of wine, was told we dont stock that. Even though its on the Wine list. after the 3rd request we finally got a glass. His response was he doesn’t normally work there. The meal itself was good. I would recommend eating here. But most of the comments seem to be around the Wait staff.

12/05/2012Visited Flame 6th May around 7.30pm not thinking we would need a booking. Boy was I wrong. Luckily we were able to get a table for 2. Couldnt beleive the amount of customers that were still arriving for a meal. This place certainly is the “Place to be” in Queenstown. especially if you love meat. My partner had the Ribs, which were delicious. While I had the Sirlion Rare with the chilli sauce, thats some good sauce. Highly recommend and will be back next time im down there.

10/05/2012I am a local to Queenstown and I eat here as my local indian restaurant. We have always had great experience with the food and the service. Takeaways are prepared quickly and always ready for pickup when we show up. Food has great flavor and is well presented, can absolutely recommend this restaurant. The Handai Lamb is the terrific!

05/05/2012Lovely, sunny outdoor area. But after sun went down, we went inside and felt the atmosphere was quite cold. We enjoyed the meals, especially the ribs. Really enjoyed the friendly service from the young Irish lass

30/04/2012We went as a group of 7 for lunch recently. The restaurant itself seemed to be focused on setting up for evening trade as it was a little chaotic and disorganised, but the food was amazing! We had (amongst other things) the ribs, a pinto box with sweet and sour chicken and a lovely chicken/vege salad. I couldn’t speak more highly of the food and will definitely be back. The service was pretty hit and miss, but I recommend going for the food alone.

29/04/2012Wow what a find ! We were on holiday in Wanaka and saw this mobile woodfired pizza trailer at the Wanaka farmers market. We waited in the long line ( obviously very popular in Wanaka) and placed our order Within 5 minutes our pizzas were ready ! My husband ordered the pepperoni – wild venison pepperoni, rocket and chilli oil while I had the tartufi – Wild mushrooms, parmesan and black truffle oil. I can honestly say there were the best pizzas I have ever tasted. We will be back again soon to try the other amazing flavours on your menu. Thanks !

27/04/2012Have regularly eaten here in the past, but alas, no more. Our recent visit left us feeling very bewildered. I ordered an omelette as gluten free, but it looked very sorry for itself when it arrived, it was so small, and on the side were four triangles of thin toasted white bread, which, 1) wasn’t mentioned on the menu, and 2) I never ordered. My husbands eggs benny was not much better either. C’mon guys, you are supposed to be in business, time to have a change of staff, attitude and management I feel.

27/04/2012Went here with 3 others. Great service and its a nice venue but rather expensive and the food is just ok, nothing to rave about. Mains are around $34 which just gets you a regular size 300g steak. Cooked ok, but how hard is that? Then you pay an extra $9 for each side, small bowl of fries, salad, garden vege. So your looking at around $50 a meal if you want a salad and some fries with your steak. Not good value. However if you dont care then its an ok over priced steak meal with great service and nice location.

27/04/2012Wow I can not understand how this place gets these positive reviews. We went once to this place during a public holiday as we hadnt booked early enough at it was the only place that was dead. Probably says something. It a very weird place, Italian meets Seafood restaurant at a lake town, go figure. Everything was very expensive and the servings were really small. There were 6 of us in the party and no one was very impressed with their meal. I got the ravioli which was actually quite nice, and around the $25 dollar make, but it was about 6 pieces of ravioli. There are some great spots in Wanaka, this is definitely not one of them.

25/04/2012Nice location and layout badly let down by sub-standard customer service and an extremely arrogant waiter. I ordered a Rekorderlig (fabulous) and my daughter ordered dessert. (cheesecake – v delicious!) When my daughter’s dessert arrived, I decided to order soup, which arrived with toast that was burnt and badly blackened by the grill on both sides. The waiter seemed to think this was perfectly fine to serve me, (even though the taste was so charcoaly I couldn’t eat it let alone enjoy it), and that I should pay full price for the privelege. I was then blamed for not complaining sooner (!) Even though they were so busy it was hard to get anyone’s attention in the first place! Customers should not expect to be treated this way and I had expected a far better standard of service from a place of this caliber. Sadly, his lack of customer service skills ruined what had otherwise been a pleasant night.

23/04/2012VIRGIN(vegetarian falafel burger) Tasty burger, nice beetroot relish. Thought perhaps instead of the yoghurt they could have used Tahini-would have been vegan, and perhaps better, a bit more authentic. I might go back and try another vegetarian burger, but I must say, I think it should be cheaper. The basic meat burger for $10.50 should also have a vegetarian equivalent. The cajun fries were nice and spicy. #1 recommendation if you guys read this: Heinz Tomato Ketchup.

23/04/2012We went on a busy Saturday night and were able to get a table. Served by three different waiter/waitresses meant some confusion regarding if we were ordering drinks from one and mains from another. Didn’t order entrees, and had some wait for the mains to arrive. I had the venison – cooked perfectly – but it wasn’t hot like I expected (was warmish). Others at the table ordered steak (rib eye was unavailable??) and it was very good. We didn’t order dessert as we were comfortably full. Prices were a bit expensive. Surroundings were nice. Would have been much better if we had clear communication between waiters, and if meals had come out quicker (and mine was hot!). Would go back again, but only order steaks, and share sides.
