A blast back to the 1980′s! Filtered coffee, vinyl tablecloths and plastic flowers. Extremely yummy eggs on toast though, awesome!

We went to the Steak and Ale bar for the first time this past Sunday evening with a little trepidation after our last outing (see previous review). We were very impressed with the Steak and Ale Bar. Staff were super nice, there when you needed them but not obtrusive at all. Our steaks were cooked to absolute perfection- I had the fillet mignon and it simply melted in my mouth. The menu was great and there were several very tempting non-steak items. We would definitely recommend the Steak and Ale bar to people and will return.

We often stop at the Waterside in Taupo, mostly because you get a great view of the lake and watch the world go by. I have always enjoyed my meals and wine and will definitely go back

After a bad lunch the day before at different Cafe (see other reviews) We thought we would visit Piccolo because it had great reviews. We were not disappointed in the slightest. The customer service was fast and super friendly, we had our perfect coffees served 2 mins after we sat down, and two mins after that our meals and the lemon meringue pie was spot on.
This I feel will become the one and only Cafe that we frequent when we are in Taupo in the future. Just a shame you do not open nights

I wish I had read the reviews before wasting good time and money on this Cafe. We walked into Indulgence on Saturday morning, they were not particularly busy. The be-speckled brunette behind the counter did not even so much as say hello to us let alone smile. Took our order for breakfast and coffee and we took our seat and waited…..and waited…..and waited. One coffee (cold) arrived after 10-15mins without the milk on the side, the barrista was obviously busy, making poncy designs on the tops of coffees. My coffee arrived after about another 10 mins. Our hearts sank when a group of 4 people who were comfortably seated when we arrived had their meals served. And then sank again when we saw the amount of food that went back to the kitchen on their plates. Another 10-15 mins and our meals arrived. Cold! And for the price that I was paying I was expecting proper smoked salmon on my eggs bene not salmon from a tin. We left feeling very unhappy, as did about 10-15 people who walked out without being acknowledged or served while we were waiting for our meals. Such a disappointment. The only redeeming feature was that we had a newspaper to read while we waited. I won’t be going back ever again. What an easy way to go out of business when there are so many other Cafe’s in Taupo to patronise

Dinner for 2 to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and we could not have chosen a better place to eat, since tapas is one of his favourite types of food. The staff were friendly, the food choices we made were excellent (particularly the pork belly, a special for the evening), and we enjoyed having a visit to the table by the charming chef, to check that everything was to our liking. We will be back, but next time with a group of perhaps 6, as each plate is big enough for a good taste for that number, and then we can try a wider selection of foods! The wine we chose was not expensive and the whole evening was very reasonably priced.

Went to this cafe recently for dinner and was not disappointed. The service was friendly and fast. Had the Fish & Chips with Salad and for dessert had the Hot Apple Pie, were both delicious meals. Would recommend.

Wow! This is truly the best cafe in Taupo. My friend and I were on a recent holiday down here and had been told of this cafe. We tried it and absolutely loved it, the food is delicious, hot drinks are superb. The selection in the cabinet and on the menu is excellent. We found the service was very fast and the staff were very efficient and friendly. We ended up coming here for 2 lunches and a breakfast……so yummy!! Prices are reasonable and not too expensive. Would definitely recommend and will certainly be returning when we next visit.

My husband and I live locally and decided to try this restaurant for the first time. He ordered chicken liver pate followed by scotch fillet and I ordered chicken livers followed by pork loin. The pate was bland but passable. The chicken livers were drowned in a brown gravy (meant to be a red wine jus), two of the three livers were overcooked and rubbery- the bacon in the sauce was the cheap processed/pressed variety. The sinew was still on the livers. Scotch fillet was ordered medium rare and came very rare. Meant to be in a mixed berry jus but was also drowned in brown gravy like chicken livers. Pork was meant to be orange and fennel glazed- orange was un-tasteable and again, more brown gravy everywhere. Food was pretty bland overall. Staff were nice and welcomed feedback but couldn’t explain the universal sauce everywhere- gave us a 10% discount which was not requested but the gesture appreciated. Not sure if we will return given the wide variety of places to eat in Taupo.

Food wise the cheese scones are to ‘die for’. I even went back for seconds. Staff were friendly the day i was there, but decor may need a ‘freshen up’ at some point soon. Will go back for the coffee and scones though!

Fabulous cafe! This cafe stands by Organic ingredients and their food is beautifully presented and so wholesome. Even down to the unbleached paper napkins to stand by what they believe in. The coffee is superb and is a real favourite Cafe when we venture down to stay in Taupo from Auckland.

A great place for locals and out of town alike. Very friendly staff. Because it is not in the CBD it is somehow more relaxing. The mains are fresh with good variety and generous

Went last week for drinks and Bar snacks.the Pizza was great.Service very attentive.Scenery superb.a great way to enjoy an evening drink and watch the sun go down.will go back.

What a great little neighborhood restaurant! Great staff, a good selection of wines/beers and a menu featuring all of my favourite dishes! Who could ask for more than that. The food was generous in both portion size and pricing and I would defiantly return. Being a neighborhood restaurant however, it doubles as a ‘local’ so don’t expect dim lighting and ‘Muzak’ playing on the background … expect a contemporary, welcoming eating establishment … with plenty of parking!

Spent the past 2 months working in Taupo and ate quite a few meals at Dixie Browns. I continued to go back there as the service and food was great. Staff very friendly and helpful. A great ambiance and comfortable restaurant to go to for a family or business meals. Would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Taupo.

This is my fav cafe in Taupo..Soooo lovely and so fresh..Lots of variety and friendly staff..I always have something different and its always yum..Great prices too..I often take clients from my work and nothing is ever a problem.
