25/05/2012We went for dinner and the service was ok but not great, our starters had arrived before our drinks. My friend had the Prawn and Scallop salad, unfortunately she spent the majority of the night afterwards on the toilet. There was a band playing, so after our meal we ordered another drink at our table and as we were the only ones left in the dining area we moved to another table so we could see the band, within 2 minutes of moving we were given our bill by the barman. We hadn’t asked for the bill, and we certainly weren’t finished for the night! This was very rude and felt that we were more or less being pushed out. We were not impressed, therefore we left. I used to be a regular at imbibe, however over the past year or so I have seen a difference, as its local this is very handy for us, however I am not sure we will be eating there again. I think imbibe needs a makeover, get rid of the ripped stool / booth covers, clean up the toilets, give the staff a lesson in attitude and customer service. Plus the bouncers need to realise that they are not working in a nightclub in the city. The only good thing about Imbibe at the moment are the free drinks on the back of the supermarket receipts.

24/05/2012My friends and I had great meals here last Friday night. We were looking for a genuine restaurant. I loved the intimate atmosphere. The staff was very friendly, attentive and helpful. We had a wonderful evening: the food was delicious — imaginative and sensitive taste combinations. I would definitely go back there again in a heartbeat!

24/05/2012Finally a great place to eat real French food in Tauranga.
Food is great, nice and fresh.
And if you ever feel guilty, remember: French women don’t get fat!

24/05/2012I ate here with a friend last week. We had a Grab One voucher and thought it was good value. Their pizzas are absolutely delicious and really authentic. I had the lamb and feta pizza – odd combination for Italian but it was delicious although excessive feta made it very salty by the end. We were not so impressed with the Churrros which took over half an hour to come – unacceptable delay at lunch time and they were burnt. They weren’t worth the wait.

24/05/2012I went there about a month ago and I really enjoyed it. Be prepared for an authentic Italian experience and not only a simple dinner!
My pizza was great (no Pizza Hut s***!
) and the manager was just awesome: friendly, funny, noisy (a real Italian guy!
).
You definitely should go for it!

24/05/2012We went as a family to Cafe Paradiso on Mother’s day and couldn’t believe how much this place has improved since last year. Despite being fully booked, they did everything to accomodate our group of 4 and wow was it worth it! My minestrone soup was out of this world, my husband was equally enthralled with his salmon & beetroot rosti and our 2 children both had the children’s roast beef and yorkshire pudding and finished every bit. We took home Eccles cakes for afternoon tea and they were awesome. Best Mother’s Day lunch I have ever had. We won’t be leaving it so long to go back next time as we noticed they are now doing free childrens meals on a Saturday.

24/05/2012The service is excellent, fast and friendly. The decor and atmosphere are superb. I recommend this to everyone who likes good food: it was fresh and fabulous. You should go for the calamari and the seafood chowder: the best I’ve ever had! The place is superb (I loved the view!) and I’m considering having my birthday party there later in the year. This is definitely worth a visit.

20/05/2012My Husband and I ate at the restaurant last evening, it was a 3 course meal which was thoroughly enjoyed. The food was cooked and presented well. We had amazing service from the waitresses. The atmosphere in there was warm with tealight candles going on the tables, everything looked clean and immaculate, and we would certainly recommend this eating place to anyone.

19/05/2012Ate there recently and although had my heart set on the pork belly to be told they had run out?!?!??! Ordered the lamb shanks and my friend the fish and chips, HUGE meals that were defiantly tasteful and we were so full when we left. Perfect pub style food that left us very satisfied. Service was great with the girls being very attentive and there when we needed them, would highly recommend!

19/05/2012The cafe was really busy when we got there so expected to wait a while before being served but was pleasantly surprised that our meal did not take long at all. We had to pay at the counter so were not able to order more drinks at our table which we would have if had been able, not a good way to sell more to the patrons. I ordered the Prawn and Bacon salad, impressed with the number of prawns but there had to be a whole lettuce on the plate and it was drizzled with vinaigrette not aioli like the menu stated, and the garlic, wow my partner wouldn’t kiss me when i got home. My friend ordered the Eggs Benedict which looked good but the hollandaise tasted very vinegary. Overall the service was not very friendly, food was ok but i would definitely not be returning.

14/05/2012I wish I had read the other bad reviews on here before my family and I dined at CSB for Mothers Day this past weekend. We decided to go to CSB so we could use our voucher from the Entertainment Book. Luckily we found out before we ordered that no sorry they weren’t accepting vouchers today. When we asked why, the manager said that in the book it stipulates that we need to say when we make our booking that we are using a voucher. Well we had our book with us and looked it up and were able to point out that the book stated completely the opposite. The manager quickly changed tack and replied tartly “well I own this place and I can choose when vouchers are or aren’t used”. So they get the great advertising for being in the book and we only chose to go there so we could get the discount. They decided not to accept vouchers that day because it was Mother’s Day. Just makes the whole experience not very fun when you have to argue with the manager then get terrible food after waiting 45mins for it! We definitely felt like they were punishing us for complaining about this as other tables who arrived after us got their meals before us. The wedges were under cooked and had very little seasoning on them.

13/05/2012I have just met the Basil Fawlty of Tauranga. I have never had to write about a restaurant in these terms before. We had booked a table on Mothers Day, using online vouchers, which were accepted at the time of booking. On arrival Maurice informed us we would have to sit outside (cold and pouring rain). We requested a table inside, impossible – after firmly telling Maurice that we did not expect to be seated outside on a cold day when we had booked and there was a table vacant inside he ungraciously blamed God and moved a table from outside to the doorway. When I pointed out this would be in everyones way, he threw his hands up in horror and walked off. One of his long suffering staff placed us in a very suitable place, and we decided to it was Gallic temperament! On ordering he refused to accept our voucher and told us he was far too busy and would not be putting on a 3 course dinner for us when he was serving Mother’s Day lunch. We pointed out that the booking had been made in person, with his head Waitress and we had asked if the voucher was OK. He became rude and abusive and told us to go away as he was busy! We gladly left and obtained a refund from the online company, suggesting they never dealt with this restaurant again. Reading other reviews we are not the only ones to have received this imbecilic little mans treatment. The Basil Fawlty of Tauranga. I truly pity his staff, worse than being employed by Gordon Ramsey!

12/05/2012Lovely atmosphere- a real escape from the usual sidewalk restaurants of the Mount. I love the ambience inside this place. Food is delicious and I recommend one of their Chard Farm wines to top off the evening. Relaxed vibe and great tasting food.

12/05/2012Since the new owners Ann-Marie and Christian took over late 2011, the Back Porch Cafe has been providing excellent, friendly service of great-tasting food and the best coffee. They’re always happy to see the regulars and most welcoming to visitors. The porch out the back is great to chill out on a sunny day with a mocha and pancakes dripping with maple syrup.

12/05/2012Not only have we dined at Grange Road several times but we have enjoyed the most wonderful luncheon catered by them. The food on all occasions has been wonderful, the service friendly and professional and my recommendation to you all would be to try their peanut brittle – delicious and indulgent.
