We went as a family to Cafe Paradiso on Mother’s day and couldn’t believe how much this place has improved since last year. Despite being fully booked, they did everything to accomodate our group of 4 and wow was it worth it! My minestrone soup was out of this world, my husband was equally enthralled with his salmon & beetroot rosti and our 2 children both had the children’s roast beef and yorkshire pudding and finished every bit. We took home Eccles cakes for afternoon tea and they were awesome. Best Mother’s Day lunch I have ever had. We won’t be leaving it so long to go back next time as we noticed they are now doing free childrens meals on a Saturday.

The service is excellent, fast and friendly. The decor and atmosphere are superb. I recommend this to everyone who likes good food: it was fresh and fabulous. You should go for the calamari and the seafood chowder: the best I’ve ever had! The place is superb (I loved the view!) and I’m considering having my birthday party there later in the year. This is definitely worth a visit.

On Mondays and Fridays after exercise class our reward is always coffee at “Freddies” There could be four or twelve of us, it makes no difference to the excellent service. We are always recognised as old friends and enjoy the friendly atmosphere.

This restaurant was just perfect! If you dine here prepare for an outstanding experience. I can’t tell you how much I was delighted! The food was great (just go and try the scallops and the lamb) and the staff was really friendly. Highly recommended! Thank you!

I have just met the Basil Fawlty of Tauranga. I have never had to write about a restaurant in these terms before. We had booked a table on Mothers Day, using online vouchers, which were accepted at the time of booking. On arrival Maurice informed us we would have to sit outside (cold and pouring rain). We requested a table inside, impossible – after firmly telling Maurice that we did not expect to be seated outside on a cold day when we had booked and there was a table vacant inside he ungraciously blamed God and moved a table from outside to the doorway. When I pointed out this would be in everyones way, he threw his hands up in horror and walked off. One of his long suffering staff placed us in a very suitable place, and we decided to it was Gallic temperament! On ordering he refused to accept our voucher and told us he was far too busy and would not be putting on a 3 course dinner for us when he was serving Mother’s Day lunch. We pointed out that the booking had been made in person, with his head Waitress and we had asked if the voucher was OK. He became rude and abusive and told us to go away as he was busy! We gladly left and obtained a refund from the online company, suggesting they never dealt with this restaurant again. Reading other reviews we are not the only ones to have received this imbecilic little mans treatment. The Basil Fawlty of Tauranga. I truly pity his staff, worse than being employed by Gordon Ramsey!

We called by to have a coffee this morning but we were very disappointed with the coffee as it was very weak! The food however looked delicious. We decided to take some turkish flat bread home, it was very disappointing, dry and overcooked!

Since the new owners Ann-Marie and Christian took over late 2011, the Back Porch Cafe has been providing excellent, friendly service of great-tasting food and the best coffee. They’re always happy to see the regulars and most welcoming to visitors. The porch out the back is great to chill out on a sunny day with a mocha and pancakes dripping with maple syrup.

Not only have we dined at Grange Road several times but we have enjoyed the most wonderful luncheon catered by them. The food on all occasions has been wonderful, the service friendly and professional and my recommendation to you all would be to try their peanut brittle – delicious and indulgent.

One of Taurangas hidden secrets. Food and coffee great, menu changes constantly. Interesting artwork too if you are looking for a bargain

I love this cafe! The only place we go when over visiting family, We even drive through Bethlehem on our way to the Mount now to enjoy brekie and stock up on goodies to share for afternoon tea. Last week the man had a hearty and perfectly cooked beef stew and I loved the special, a prawn and pancetta salad, it was simple and perfect. Their bakers are very talented and the range of sweets is the best I have come across, lammingtons, beautiful brioche and I always bring a brownie back to Hamilton to get me through the week! Very funky decor always something interesting to look at! Even when this big cafe is packed the service is fast and friendly!

This is the first time I have ever written a restaurant review but after our experience at Nautilus I feel compelled to do so to warn others of this place. The service was OK although we were left to find our own seats when we first arrived!. The food though is beyond awful. From the entrees to the mains to the dessert it got worse and worse. Alot of the food tasted like processed S#!T from a packet, the gnocci if you can call it that you could use as foundations to build your house on, the scotch fillet steak was obviously not scotch fillet at all and the so called pinot noir sauce, well, we don’t even want to know what that was! The vegetables sides were boiled slices of parsnip, carrot and courgette (disgusting). We then tried to order something for dessert that we thought they really could’nt muck up but how wrong we were there as well. The trio of icecream was a tower of melting mess seperated by those awful pink wafers from a packet, didn’t know you could still buy these!. The so called Drambuie affogato resembled more of a weird iced coffee, the only thing saving it was the shot of Drambuie. The only reason we battled through all three courses is that we had Internet vouchers. We paid up and left before the so called ‘friendly’ owner who was bearing down on us could clasp his hands on our shoulders and hold us in our seats like captives and talk us to death. I also honestly do not believe that some of these reviews are written by genuine diners.

Great coffee and nice food unfortunately the manager choose to question the integrity of my husband over two coffee stamps!! Told him she had already given him his coffee stamps for our first two coffees even though she wasn’t on the counter at the time.

Definitely our favourite place to eat breakfast while holidaying at the Mount, we have eaten here many times. Big Breakfasts, Eggs Benedict and Pancakes are highly recommended. Staff are always friendly and meals even when busy don’t take too long. This cafe is always busy over summer period, but it is not surprising. Meals are generous and a good price.

Teasonably priced to visit for breakfast or lunch. Can be very busy especially over Xmas period and expect quite a wait for meals. . But good choice of items on menu. And reasonably priced. Pity the last time we ate there, had a rude waiter who reached right over and in front of me twice while I was eating. No excuse me or whatsoever. Not Impressed!!
