You won’t find a better place to dine in Raglan. Gorgeous old-world charm, pleasant music, friendly service – nothing too much trouble. Wonderful food, freshly-baked bread, divine cake and cookies. The coffee – out of this world – how do they make it taste like this? What a treat! Thank you, Vinnies, for a truly memorable experience. Looking forward to my next visit to this special place.

Rangiriri

My kids and I decided to meet at Rangiriri yesterday for mothers day since it is reasonably central between Auckland and Teawamutu. I was very disappointed, we had to wait nearly two hours. There were a few people there but certainly didn’t see anyone rushed off their feet. I would of thought since it was mothers day they would of been prepared. I had two children who were starving by the time the meals came as it was nearly 3pm. The meals were large and reasonable, not great. The best thing about it, I was with my family and we had a good time in spite of it. To give it its due I have been there in the past and had quite a nice meal!

I don’t know if all the staff were hung over when I dined at Narrows landing yesterday or just terrible at their jobs. Generally I’m an easy girl to please when it comes to dining (I just love food) but this was woeful. Bad service, long unexplained waits, no drink top ups and food lacking love. The worst part was when we told the manager about our less than par experience he couldn’t care less. Shows a lot about a business when the manager can’t even listen. Needless to say we will not be dining there again. Oh and when we got home we noticed we were over charged for two glasses of wine and a bowl of fries. Not one to finish on a bad note there was a pretty tui in the tree nearby.

It was Mothers Day this Sunday. Myself, my husband, my daughter and my mum all went to The Narrows, as my mother hasn’t dined there before…OMG how disappointing, poor service, an hour 10 before mains come out, would have been alright if we were offered more drinks, then when the meals come out..I don’t really now what to say..maybe I should have cooked the roast myself, then the manager after I told him of my disappointment was arguing with me..myself or other family members will not be returning… Sort it out Narrows.

We dined there for Mothers Day, awesome setting, but that is all that was good. We waited overly long for drinks orders, the waitress brought the wine to the table in a bucket without ice, which was plonked on the table for us to serve. Meal orders were taken without a thorough briefong about the specials. We then waited for over an hour for our meals during which time we were never approached about the delay nor to have our drinks replenished. The food was not of the standard we expected, at best it was poor home cooking standard, poor cuts of meat overcooked, poorly cooked veges, store baught yorkshire pudding, very dry pasta dish. Again, when the meals arrived drinks were not replenished. We were very disappointed with the service, with the standard of the meal and with the attitude of the manager when we raised our disappointment. We are not fussy but do expect far better than we got. We have eaten there previously, but I doubt we will again, ever! Awesome setting though.
