17/05/2012This has to be the best restaurant in the Waikato. I have never had a bad experience there ever, and i have eaten there quite a few times. I have been to most of the restaurants around here and while some are shocking, the most of them are all pretty good. But the Gostiona is definitely the best. We had our family get together this Sunday, mothers day, and we went to the Gostiona for their Sunday smokey BBQ buffet. The food was out standing, and the girl who looked after our table did a fantastic job. The place was full to the brim, but there was plenty of room to move, and they didn’t run out of anything which is often what happens at buffets. The food was divine, and the chef came to our table and told us what we were having and was a great host. I highly recommend this place to everyone. Leroy Jones

14/05/2012We dined on Mothers Day. I think they were short staffed and we were forgotten. the manager was apoligetic and said he has just taken over. The meals were ok, the stir fry a generous portion but I would not describe as fine dining. We went as it was in our entertainment book under this heading.

12/05/2012The first time I went there I was a little underwhelmed, the food was just average. My husband had the steak for two, and finished the whole thing as well as entree, dessert, and a side of fries. He said although it was nice, it wasn’t worth the $65. We went a second time, and the menu had changed and I really enjoyed the food. My shrimp dumpling entree was delicios, I got the pork as my main course, very yummy and I couldnt finish it all there was quite a lot! My dessert was a bit average though, I ordered the trifle and it was a little bland for my liking. Would definitely go back! Lovely atmosphere and nice attentive waiters

10/05/2012Not a nice Thai food experience. Would not eat there again. Decor flat and the food average and not heated enough

Te Awamutu
29/04/2012Stopped here for lunch and coffee a few weeks back. The lady taking orders at the counter seemed very blase about things and not very helpful when I asked questions about the menu. I ordered nachos with ‘the works’ of which she couldn’t tell me what it actually consisted of. Turns out it was chips, layered with grated cheese and microwaved (you could tell by the way the cheese had melted, bubbled and gone hard) then topped with very sweet red looking mince, sour cream and a huge dollop of horrible processed packaged guacamole. Ick to say the least! Coffee was good though, but did take a while to arrive. No effort was made to clear any tables in the place in the half hour or so that I was there. Good portion size, but thats not a good thing when its a big portion of somethin not very nice!

26/04/2012Service non-existent. We drove from Hamilton for what we hoped would be a leisurely birthday lunch. In an almost deserted cafe we waited in vain for almost 15 minutes for a waitress to approach our table (water? wine? how are you today?). We then drove to Te Awamutu where a lovely restaurant was more than happy to accept our order and money. We won’t be going back to Persimmon Tree Cafe – our friends probably won’t either.
