26/05/2012Had to check this place after reading all the positive reviews. This is probably one of my favourite restaurants in Auckland. I loved it because it was the first time I’ve ever tipped the restaurant. I’ve been to Valentines, Happy Days, Dennys, La Porchetta, Steak House in nearly all the different areas in Auckland and this place is my favourite. Because you have a lot of variety of food and its healthy. That’s the main thing I like for myself because when you go to a restaurant you know your going to be eating more than you should. But I loved this place, great staff, good value for money, friendly environment, overall a nice vibe and the desert adds the perfect touch to the night. Maybe just adding a bit more variety with desert like cakes or something. But still 5 stars for me. I recommend it to all.

21/05/2012Toby’s has been around many years with a multitude of owners with varying degrees of success. The last time we had a meal there it was average but we decided to give it another go Saturday night as had changed hands recently to the owners of Marsala. The service on the whole was slow to non existent, amateur and uncoordinated. Even if short staffed a little basic organisation would have helped. We waited 10minutes before we had to beg for a wine list, then 15mins before the wine was brought. Meals arrived in better time and the food was good but a popular dish, squid was finished and then another chosen entree unavailable. The main dining area was draughty but could have been made cosy & welcoming if the main fire was lit. Also paper on the tables is tacky. If Tobys were to lift their game and get organised, they’d be a very popular restaurant. Their setting and locality is perfect. Get organised Tobys, improve your ambiance and service and you’ll win over customers Auckland wide!

19/05/2012Great restaurant! The food is amazing and the staff are very polite and friendly, so excellent service
. I would recommend the vegetarian box and the deep fried banana desert. The staff brought out a deep fried banana and ice cream desert with candles on it because it was my birthday. This was an unexpected surprise and it was lovely of the owners to do this! I don’t think I have ever been surprised with a free desert
and it was delicious!! I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I will be going there again.

19/05/2012Vevo cafe and food store is tucked away at back of the Titirangi mall and car park area. Light and open with view of Manukau harbour from back of cafe. The food is good to look at and delicious with a range of salads, savoury and sweet items. Coffee is excellent. Staff are attentive and friendly. A good alternative to the always popular Hardware. Also some well chosen deli foods and meals to choose from and take home.

Glendene
18/05/2012We arrived in town from Tauranga and stayed at the motel around the corner from Pizzaland, my wife and I thought we might wander to the shops and see what is on offer in Glendene, Pizzaworld looked OK, so we ordered a “Peake” pizza. To call the service welcoming would be a stretch of the imagination. We took it away to eat and watch the rugby in our unit. To call the pizza dreadful would be the highest praise we could give it. Like most kiwis we cannot be bothered wandering back & complaining at the shop, it is far easier just to never spend a dollar there again, and try to ensure that no one else does either in our circle of friends and contacts. By the way.. bare hands in the tucker by the staff after handling cash etc is not OK, latex gloves should be a minimum when stacking the bland ingredients onto the tomatoe less base.

16/05/2012A bit disappointing considering we were very excited to have an Italian restaurant in Glen Eden – who would have thought!! We ordered take out and for the amount we paid were very disappointed with the portions we received!! First impressions are everything because if not you just don’t go back!!

15/05/2012Nice food, but pretty pricey compared to other Malaysian restaurants, especially as the atmosphere is quite basic. The Homemade Egg Tofu ($20) was silky smooth. The inviting Fish Head Curry cost $66, though I have to say it was a large platter, and consists of the front half of a fish, rather than just the head, and also comes with a bit of vegetables (okra, brocolli, beans, etc.) Apart from booking a table, you need to order in advance for specialty items, including: - Hainanese chicken (half $18, whole $36) - herbal duck, steamed with special Chinese herbs ($68) - treasure duck, steamed with sticky rice and mushroom ($68) - curry fish head (seasonal price) - taro basket ($32) - fried crabs with XO or chilli sauce (seasonal price) - gado gado ($28) - dessert: bubur cha cha or sago pudding ($6 per bowl) Service was efficient, but I didn’t like the way bowls of rice automatically appeared on plates in front of us, especially as they cost $3 each (we ended up sending one back). The restaurant also seemed to have run out of a number of vegetables, despite us being there at 7pm—or perhaps they were just not in season. Basically they seemed to only have beans. Despite being on the menu, kangkong (hollow stem vegetable) and eggplant were both unavailable.

15/05/2012We waited over and hour for our meals which were overpriced and very poor quality. Chicken burger was cold and clearly had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while as the sauces had soaked all through the bread. Chicken was so tough it couldnt be bitten through. Seafood chowder was just soup with celery, minimal amounts of frozen and very small sized seafood. Spare ribs were good flavour but a lot of gristle on them. Overall poor service – we complained about the burger and chowder and didnt pay for the burger but person serving at counter criticised us for not saying anything to the waitress, ddespite the fact she was never around. We wont be going back there. Poor service, poor food.

14/05/2012My partner & I have only eaten here once but are VERY keen to go back, we only discovered it 1 week ago and went due to the reviews on MenuMania. They don’t disappoint! I am gluten free and when I told them they understood and were able to tell me exactly what I could eat. For Thai this is very good, many places don’t understand. Beyond that it was delicious! Had leftovers to take home as the portions are so generous! Book as it is small and popular! I’ll be going back very soon!

14/05/2012What a fantastic find! We have dined here twice and had numerous takeaways. My partner and I both love this place. The food is fresh, delicious and authentic, we wouldn’t go anywhere else for Italian now! I am gluten free and they were able to cater for me perfectly! I think they are starting to know us now! The staff are very friendly and helpful It does get very busy as it’s only small, so it pays to book! Really well priced also. Love this place, can’t wait to go back again!

12/05/2012I’ve been eating at Thip Thai for 6 months now. The food is delicious and the staff are always friendly and helpful. We have only got take aways but I wouldn’t be opposed to eating in every now and again. Their prices are very reasonable. The decor is simple but clean. Would definitely recommend Thip Thai with confidence.

11/05/2012As a previous customer I was more than prepared to take my partner and my son to this establishment, and once again absolutely satisfied with the friendly west auckland service and simple but delicious array of food I received. Best example of good service was the fact that our son(6yr) was served 1st, and not to long after me and my partner received ours. Please note that this is NOT a fine dining restaurant but a lovely family restaurant. Will dine there again!!!

10/05/2012Love love LOVE the food here. Great little restaurant with a great atmosphere. Service is friendly and intimate. The menu is regularly on the move offering regular customers a “bite” at lots of different cherries. My favourite being the cured meats and the chickpea chips with salsa. If you are not a local, it is worth the drive to get a bit of this!

10/05/2012Creamy mushrooms and Pukeko Benedict a real hit here… oh, and the Lime Milkshakes are to die for (but be sure to ask for them, as they are not on the menu). Wait staff are attentive and always have a smile on their face. Great place to take the kids with adjacent Kiwi Valley Farm always a bonus and lots of chickens and animals lurking!

10/05/2012A little piece of Ponsonby makes it to Glen Eden. Really Fantastic. WE NEED MORE OF THIS IN THE WEST PLEASE! Given how busy this place gets, it is clearly a sign that the West needs to grow more businesses like this. There is a demand for it. WE LOVE THE EGGS BENEDICT. Please consider serving these during the week too! Also, feel free to bowl into the neighbouring shops and extend your fabulous cafe for more table opportunities! Love ya!
