25/05/2012Had a good time during the first time ate here for lunch. Perfect ambiance and dimsum to die for, chicken feet, seaweed salad, crispy chicken wings, pork bun, to name a few. however on the second time around the waitresses were so busy to attend to our needs especially priorititzing the bigger family with small kids.we had to await for half an hour to be served with the rice when we almost finished half of our food.the place is also kinda dark. needs more lighting.and the number of orders they’re writing on your piece of paper on the table is on chinese character which even makes it difficult to decipher upon payment.overall, it’s mindblowing.will go back there not in the next few months , though.

23/05/2012A group of about 12 of us dined at Dahra on Saturday night. The Mandu (dumplings) entree dish was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! However, the Chapchae main dish was a let down – very bland (I had to ask for more flavour in the form of hot sauce and/or chilli flakes). I also couldn’t work out why there was a 1/2 C portion of rice served with a noodle dish…? There were mixed reviews about the food amongst our group. The pottery on the tables is apparently quite special, but every piece near me had chips out of it. I’d go back for the Mandu, but I’d have to try something else for the main and hope that their other dishes measure up.

22/05/2012Regardless all bad comments, we had dinner here last night. Teriyaki Chicken was excellent as usual. The Roast Duck had been roasted into perfection, and the skin was very crunky. This is the best I have tried in Wellington after Auckalnd. Service was excellent. We also got extra free soup ~!! Will definitely visit again and highly recommend to others.

21/05/2012I’ve been to this place a number of times, yes I know a lot of people have given below average ratings but let me say a couple things. Their Lamb Kebabs are really good if you have a chance to pop in order from their kebab menu instead. But other than that we went there last Friday and our main meal didn’t come out till an hour after ordering. The food was average but please avoid their over chlorinated water! Just get yourself a coke.

15/05/2012So you will walk passed it think, “hell I’m going in there, that place looks scruffy. I’m not even sure it is entirely clean”. Well you are half right it is scruffy and your half wrong it is clean. I have been going to the Beijing consistently over a period of 10 years and consistently the food there has been the best in the Wellington Area. If you want authentic Chinese, made from quality fresh food then go the Beijing. Except NO substitutes. BEST Dish Deep Fried Chicken Follow by Duck with Pancakes. MY GOD MY MOUTH IS WATERING AGAIN… Doubt me walk passed and find it not busy. People aren’t stupid they are like me they go back for more.

13/05/2012We, three women in late 30s, dined on Saturday night. Busy. We came away thinking that the food was perhaps OK, but the waiting service and communication was very bad. Heres an interaction summary. Starters. Us: “Spring roll and fried chicken wings please, and two of us do NOT eat coriander, please no coriander in food. please no coriander in food, but please put a bit on a side dish” Waiter: “No problem” What arrived was 1 spring roll (as ordered) and 1 deep fried spring roll. The ordered raw spring roll had coriander in it and there was no side dish. Us: “we didnt order this deep fried spring roll”. Waiter: “we are out of chicken wings. This deep fried pork spring roll is delicious. You should try it.” Us: “No. We dont want it thank you, (waiter takes away) but, hold on hold on.. can we keep that dipping sauce?” (2 different dipping sauces had come to the table) Waiter: “No. this dipping sauce is not for raw roll” We didnt get to keep the dipping sauce. Mains Us: “Beef salad, rare beef Pho bo (No coriander please!!), and a Vietnamese crepe please.” Waiter: “No problem.” What arrived was perfectly a good beef salad, Pho with coriander (we could pick it off), but no crepe for me. My friends had eaten their meals by the time I reminded staff I was waiting for crepe…which promptly arrived…half off the plate…It look like it was made as an after thought…an “absolutely no time to make it” meal..But importantly it was yummy. So please take what you will from review. We think its important to have good communication between customers and kitchen…So perhaps give your waiters a bit of training? Hitomi

13/05/2012food was great, only thing that slightly let it down was our waitress, don’t know if it was a mid week thing, but I felt we were kind of annoying to her. Loved how we could thank the chefs on the way out. atmosphere was grand.

10/05/2012I agree with Matthew B. … I’ll take the great food served fast in a simple environment anyday … and any place that you have to reserve a table to guarantee a spot for a weekday lunch must be doing it right.

07/05/2012I dined here last month on 11th April. Food was nice, I especially enjoyed the curry and the Vietnamese summer rolls. Service was particularly bad in some areas, such as taking 20 minutes to bring out my friends cake, after asking for it twice. When the cake came out they didn’t even bother to take it out of the box. Entree plates were not cleared from the table until after mains were served, and I had to order soy sauce for $1 (which came out probably about 10ml worth). Had to ask for an extra jug of water for the table (how do a dozen people share a single jug of water, especially on an oblong table?) Bonus was the two for one cocktail evening. I didn’t know that they offered this so it was a nice surprise. They have an interesting choice of music being a fusion Asian restaurant. From Cafe del mar to Police’s Roxanne.

05/05/2012Ginny and Juno who run the business day to day work hard to keep the counters full of yummy and fresh breakfast, lunch and snack options. But what really draws us to the cafe are the delish!! cheese and date scones. Both are really the best in Welly and sadly I am hooked on both………ahh which one to choose today?? If you like something a bit different – try the oaty ginger slice – very healthy looking, tasty and filling.

04/05/2012Ordered the spicy soup hot pot and also the beef, pork and seafood hot plate bbq ( two of the most expensive meals on the menu ) was disappointed over the outcome. Firstly, the portion of meals was way too little and the meats were sparse to say the least. Lighting at night was pretty dark as well. Probably wont dine there until a change of ownership.

04/05/2012Have eaten at Dragonfly before and had fantastic experience, meal delicious staff great. Returned because we had enjoyed it so much and took an out of town guest – sadly however this time felt let down, delayed service, long wait for meal staff not quite so on-to-it

04/05/2012I went to Dragonfly last night for the first time. Wow so enjoyed it. I didn’t dine but sat outside in the area off the bar and the staff were very attentive and constantly asking us if we needed anything. We had some of the starters and they were delicious. The squid and the three cheese wontons were yummy. Will have to go back to try the restaurant. Loved the decor and ambience.

01/05/2012This is the best Thai in Wellington I have found that is affordable and delish! The staff are friendly the food comes out fast and is always amazing. My partner and i go about once a month, and when we have family visiting we always take them there and everyone always loves it. In fact we are going tonight just the two of us, and going back on Friday night with my sister and her kids. Love it!

30/04/2012I love this restaurant. The squid starter is yummy as are the dim sims and wontons. It’s all fantastic. The wine is reasonably priced and the service is great. We’ve taken big groups there and very accommodating with creating a set menu for us.
