The guys went crazy over the beer options…not to mention the beer taster trays on offer. The four of us loved our meals…all having something different. Even our German guest loved the German dish, he wanted to thank the chef. Can’t wait til my next visit when the kids are with the grandparents.

I recently celebrated my 5 year anniversary and emailed Pravda and asked about the possibility of a degustation. I received a call from the functions manager who said that she chatted with the Head Chef and they would be delighted to accommodate my request. I had a quick meeting with him the following week to discuss the evening, state that I have an egg allergy, and he said he can take care of everything. We arrived on the night and were taken to our seats, a wonderful cosy corner with the outlook of the entire restaurant and the kitchen. We had custom made menus just for our special night. The menu looked incredible and the wait staff were always so happy to serve us and answer any questions – we didn’t have to ask for anything the whole night and were really taken care of. The Head Chef came out to personally serve us a couple of dishes and talk about the food which was fantastic, so incredible that he was able to do this and that there was a bit of a fuss – this made us both feel on top of the world. We got a touch nervous at certain parts of the meal because there was ‘Mayo type sauces’ and Gnocchi but without eggs! I’m often I’m reduced to having no sauce to speak of or very run of the mill, packety, type stuff – This was fantastic for me and the Head Chef shared a few nuggets of gold ‘cheffy’ information on how to’s (fantastic!). The food was absolutely terrific, The Head Chef is truly an artist and you can see the passion on the plate when we were presented with the meals. We were so impressed. We have been foodies since before it was ‘mainstream’, we have travelled far and wide, close on 30 odd countries with a passion for tasting everything we could. Our mind over the evening and for the week since has turned to our best dishes and dining experiences, the food and our experience at Pravda is right up there. The Head Chef (Adam) is a ridiculously passionate and fantastic chef. In Wellington we have dined at The Chameleon, Boulcott St Bistro, Logan Brown, Shed 5, White House, Matterhorn among others and Pravda would be one we would revisit and recommend to our friends in a heartbeat.

Three of us lunched at the Hippopotamus Restaurant and were delighted with the atmosphere, the service and the food. It was a special occasion and we loved every minute of it. In fact we recommended it to friends who have already made a booking

Relaxed, informal atmosphere. Great for bookish types, with Axminster carpet, bookshelves and piles of books everywhere. One couple was playing a game of backgammon when we got there! Good place to chill out after work. Good wine selection, and the salmon platter was absolutely divine. I would definitely go back again.

Mothers day lunch and for the mother it was a wonderful day so mission accomplished. The service was good and they catered for our gluten free guest with ease The food was tasty and presented well What we did not like was being asked if we would like to start with a glass of bubbles and without choice, being served a $25 option Might go back if the occasion arose and finances allowed

these guys have been there for years and if you’re a local its a staple, friendly atmosphere, character, oh and you cant go past the jumbo burger, typical of a takeaways, but Massive! its a must.

We walked in off the street and were accommodated well. However, the waitress did not seem to be very interested in us at all – she did not explain the rulesa round the express menu until we started ordering – so most of the table then had to re-think their choices. The food was fantastic – but the portions seemed quite small. We requested dessert menus which arrived – and then waited at least 15 minutes for the waitress to come back and take our orders – as she was busy taking orders from tables who had received their dessert menus after us! We stood up and left after waiting the 15 minutes – which was very disappointing as the desserts did look great. 3 of our party were still hungry, so needed to stop on our way back to our motel to buy more food.

I went there with a close friend 3 weeks ago and discovered that they serve foie gras, as people outside were handing out leaflets about it. Now that I understand the awful cruelty in its production I will not be returning to Le Canard until they remove it from the menu.

My husband and I had fantastic meals here last Saturday night. We were looking for a restaurant on par with other Wellington greats like Logan Brown, Martin Bosley’s, The White House etc and we weren’t disappointed – in fact, I loved the intimate atmosphere of Ambeli very similar to the White House and the food was definitely on par. The staff were very attentive, helpful and friendly. The food was amazing. Would definitely go back there again in a heartbeat!

My wife and I recently travelled from Brisbane to celebrate our wedding anniversary with family and friends. We picked Charlie Bill on line and pre booked. I got it right for a change! Leigh and Hemi run an informal Bistro that has superb food and personal service. We were a party of twelve and between us tried most, if not all, the dishes on the menu. All plates were clean and I relished in the compliments for picking the restaurant. My wife is still raving over the orange,berry and cardoman desert. It’s my turn to pass on the compliments to Leigh and Hemi and say thank you for a lovely night. Ka Kite Ano

Amazing! Great food, great service, and great ambience! Excellent restaurant for a special occasion. Also in the entertainment book but once you’ve dined, you don’t want to use the voucher, you want to pay the full price!

Staying nearby, so an easy choice for dinner for two. We just shared tapas and the house Spanish red. Was surprised by how good the house wine was! Standouts were the chorizo and beans (could have eaten this by myself), and honey goats cheese puffs (who doesn’t like salty/sweet?). Absolutely delicious! The staff are very friendly, efficient and despite us just grazing on a busy Saturday night, never made us feel like we had to move on. And the restaurant is gorgeous! Absolutely loved it!
