We visited about 8 on saturday night and the restaurant was busy. We ordered mains, there was some choice but not a very wide ranging menu as I would have expected. The food was good, I had the adana which had good flavour and spice and was very tender. My partner had a chicken dish which was also good. both came with the standard salad and garnish. The wine list is all mid range and very well priced – they are byo but for the wine prices they charge I would order from their list next time. In terms of gripes, we went on an entetainment card, and this made prices fine, but just short of 30 for their mains is ovepriced, and the bathrooms need some TLC. I would go back with a voucher, but not full prices.

My husband and I had fantastic meals here last Saturday night. We were looking for a restaurant on par with other Wellington greats like Logan Brown, Martin Bosley’s, The White House etc and we weren’t disappointed – in fact, I loved the intimate atmosphere of Ambeli very similar to the White House and the food was definitely on par. The staff were very attentive, helpful and friendly. The food was amazing. Would definitely go back there again in a heartbeat!

I really wanted to like this place. The restaurant is beautiful, and the staff were very friendly and polite (even though the waitress removed our entrees before we’d finished them). However the food is just so disappointing! Both the mains of my partner and I tasted like they had been microwaved. The food was WAY too hot, was mushy and very bland. I couldn’t even eat half of my chicken parmigiana, it was just a waste of time. However, the coleslaw that came as my side was incredible. If I could go in and buy it takeaway I would do this as often as possible. Overall though, Osteria Del Toro is not worth the trip, especially for how expensive it is.

Staying nearby, so an easy choice for dinner for two. We just shared tapas and the house Spanish red. Was surprised by how good the house wine was! Standouts were the chorizo and beans (could have eaten this by myself), and honey goats cheese puffs (who doesn’t like salty/sweet?). Absolutely delicious! The staff are very friendly, efficient and despite us just grazing on a busy Saturday night, never made us feel like we had to move on. And the restaurant is gorgeous! Absolutely loved it!
