Seems reasonably priced. Food is fresh (haven’t tried sweets). Sandwiches and rolls aren’t loaded with filler ingredients… like most bakeries in Whangarei Pies are amazing, dunno if they make them instore. my new best lunchbar.

My son lives in Australia, and for Mother’s Day he paid for my husband and I to dine at Nomad’s. What a fantastic nite we had! From the moment we arrived and were welcomed by Luke, the service was exemplary (you need to give lessons to the other restaurants in Whangarei!!!) faultless!! and your little waitress is a real gem. At last, a restaurant that understands service!! The food was absolutely awesome, flavourful and well seasoned – did not have to reach for the salt and pepper for any of the dishes! I had the Moroccan Cigars and they were delicious. my husband, the Spicy Prawns – he loved them! The Calamari was without doubt the BEST I have ever eaten (I sampled a piece from my husband’s plate) – I had the Chicken & Apricot Tagine – great! the food was beautifully presented and the food was hot when it arrived – excellent!! the desserts were divine, and the wine (Johnny Q was an excellent accompaniment to the meal. we finished our superb dining experience with apple tea, which was also lovely and hot. My husband thought I had the best seat for viewing the talented belly dancer, and I agree – “she is very supple” I think were the words he used!! All in all, we will be recommending your wonderful restaurant to anyone who appreciates excellent food excellent service and is looking for a true dining experience! thank you !

The service was average and the food was below average. The presentation of the food was good but the quality was disgusting. The food was very acidic and had very bad choices of ingredients. I was also horrified that they served us burnt food. They did take it back but only because we pointed it out. I was outraged that they even served it. It was so obvious that it was burnt. However the prices seemed mellow compared to other restaurants but for the quality of the food it was definitely overpriced. The only thing good were the drinks and 2 friendly waitresses.

I am such a fan of this restaurant – what an assett to Whangarei! Fabulous professional staff – young – but just lovely and welcoming. My friends and I definately recommend this place for a great “girls night out” and no wonder the bathrooms are talked about they are the nicest in town! Excellent well priced food and ambiance and a huge selection. just go there its great!

Have been here more than once as we are a fan of the casual friendly service. Not a place to go if you expect to be treated like a queen, which I don’t. It’s relaxed and friendly and the waitress isn’t scared to have a few jokes with you. As usual the food was amazing and the pricing is reasonable especially when you look at how your plate is loaded up! The only place to eat pork in town and enjoy different beers. Will be back again.

I don’t rate this place at all. I should have known better than to order steak at a pizza place but did it anyway. It’s not the food that is bad but the lack of attention to detail. Our steak came out with no bacon even though the menu stated they would be wrapped in bacon. There were no steak knives on the table nor any pepper for the steak. We had to request both of these. The menus were not taken away after we had ordered but left sitting on the table which was already too small. We mentioned all this to the owner who was completely unapologetic after asking our opinion. Gave us a complimentary $5 tub of ice cream each (I hate ice cream.) She then made reference to how great the bathrooms and decor are. REALLY – I didn’t go there to look at her bathrooms. I found it completely unprofessional and the lack of customer skills here would prevent me from returning, along with the pricing. High end pricing for low end service. Must comment the steak was not bad at all just missing bacon and overcooked.

Having relocated to Whangarei from Auckland six months ago, we are astonished at the negative reviews regarding the Tai Tong. We can only imagine that these people must have eaten at a different restaurant or have a personal grudge…? We are well-travelled, enjoy Asian food, and we found the service, food and atmosphere to be excellent. We have no hesitation in highly recommending this restaurant. We will certainly be regulars! Thank you, Eliza Lee and Raymond for a great meal. Stan and Ann

Quite a nice little place. Been a few times and it’s always been ok. Heard it’s got a new owner so hoping for something a bit different now. So many cafes in Whangarei follow the same format – paninis, muffins and the all day breakfasts. Let’s see something new! Let’s see some more veggie options! Let’s see less ham/bacon! Also a fold down change table in the toilets would be a great addition and make it more popular with the mummas who do lunch : )
