A loooooooooong wait to get any food, food tasted good, girl completely mucked up the bill at the end.

Appalling is all I can say about this place. We waited 40 mins to get our lunches (not great when you’re on a lunch break), other people who came in after us were all served first; we saw the ‘chef’ (person in a black hoodie doing the cooking) using ungloved hands to put salad onto plates; my smoked chicken salad was in fact a plate of bitter salad greens, 2 cherry tomatoes, loads of red onion, a few cashews and brown coloured dry ‘roasted’ chicken that tasted like it was from a left over roast! It tasted awful and I told the waitress and she offered a refund. I then ordered a hot chocolate…the ‘hoodie’ girl came back and saying nothing, plonked what a full cup of froth with about 2 inches of actual fluid in it in front of me and walked off! My sister had ordered a panini and it was left under lights the entire 40mins and was too dry to eat. NEVER again….it’s not worth the frustration!

UPDATE: My husband and I went back here last night…and to our utter dismay the food was still absolute garbage! Our roast of the day was chicken but pork came out, she replaced it with chicken that was okay. When it arrived the pumpkin was shrivelled up because it was reheated day before roasted and it tasted terrible! In fact everything on the plate had an ‘old’ reheated upon reheated taste and we left most the entire plate! When we went to pay for our (advertised as $9.90 roast meal) we were charged $56.00 because we opted for the smaller portion! SO let me get this straight…a larger size of this crap food cost half the price of the ‘dinner’ size??! we just paid the bill and left…no more chances guys, your meals suck!

Not good for gluten free; mixed up our orders and tasted of far too much tomato sauce! yuk. Worst pizza in town

our party of 6 tried to get a booking last Friday (we came from out of town) but were told we couldn’t! We waited 20minutes for a table and were given a menu. The waitress (apparently her first night) disappeared without telling us about any specials, taking drinks orders etc. Another 20minutes went by and she finally came back for our orders. I asked for some onions to go with my steak but was told I could not have them! OMG are you kidding me. Then we waited an hour (getting our own drinks from the bar) before our meals ‘almost’ arrived. In fact they were taken to the wrong table and for the next 5 minutes the waitress and the patrons at that table argued over the fact it was there order. Eventually she figured they were ours and uplifted them from under their noses and transferred them to us….eww! Nobody came to check our meals were okay. We ordered dessert and to their credit we were charged half price for them since we had waited and been mucked about so much. Never again! We just will not eat there again.

We dine here when we want a cheap quick easy meal. They are always very friendly to us, service is excellent. Food tastes good despite sometimes looking a bit sloppy on the plate (eg; baked potato). Yes we too have heard manager /owner be rude to his staff. Not a good look.

I took a group of 22 here and we found the following: There was not enough food in the buffet containers and some were not replaced; Food was warm; we were told that if we wasted any food then we would be charged double! (legal….I think not!) and the food itself was only average. Not a very pleasant outing I’m afraid. Won’t be going back.

This place is a wee gem! Very clean, you can see them cooking and the food taste great. No problems when ordering gluten free food. Fresh ingredients. Friendly capable staff. Very fast and efficient service and we now prefer it to any other noodle places in town

My husband and I decided to give the Strathern Inn another try recently. We were greeted by a friendly barman/manager and shown a seat in the almost empty restaurant. My husband had pasta and enjoyed it despite there being enough to feed an army! My stuffed chicken had too much cream cheese in it and over powered the whole meal making it sickly. My veges were frozen mixed veges out of a packet, my roast potatoes were obviously from the day before and reheated in the microwave…not nice at all! When we asked for dessert menu we were told kitchen could be closed (it was 8.30pm!) A ‘pavlova’ arrived…2 meringues stuck together with cream, raspberry sauce, chocolate sauce, more cream, a twisted slice of orange, and believe it or not…chocolate sprinkles and all of this squirted and sprinkled across the entire plate. It felt like nana’s place! The entertainment was lovely but we won’t be going again. The waitress/bar person, jack of all trades it seems really needs to dress herself up a bit too. She looked like she had just finished the cleaning!

We ate here for lunch yesterday and never again! My daughter ordered a panini and when it arrived it was only half of one. I ordered a chicken salad and the chicken tasted exactly like ‘luncheon roll’ type chicken, a few sad lettuce leaves,completely no taste in the potatoes, and was so disgusting I left he entire meal! I told the waitress it was awful and the chicken was tasted processed and she got ‘upperty’ with me and said it was marinated, then changed her mind and said it was tender basted! What?? doubt it. SHe was very rude and made no offer to make amends.I began feeling sick with a queesy tummy late afternoon and today I have what I believe to be food poisoning! Will be contacting ILT.

Nice fresh food but has gotten rather expensive lately. Nothing to rave about on the menu and very limited gluten free.

Nice birthday meal out with friends 2 weeks ago and 3 of us were given bags of Roses Chocolates for our birthdays! Nice one. Starters took ages to come but following that everything came out in good time and tasted supurb!

We had our work ‘do’ here last month and we loved it! A little bit slow but we didn’t mind. Limited gluten free is disappointing when most places are onto this now. Food generally good but a few in our party found their meals a little on the small side for what we paid.

Four of us dined here on Saturday. We were puzzled as to why we couldn’t order a platter for 4 and could only order 2 platters for 2! Seems odd. Platter not as varied as other times dining here and corned beef totally off! Meat was replaced with something else and free drinks. Handled well but still a bit disappointing.

Husband and I eat here on Saturday mornings once or twice a month. I always order the pumpkin soup and Gfree toast YUM! can’t beat it. Great place, friendly staff just a wee bit cramped at times.

My daughter and I went to Ziffs for a quiet late afternoon snack recently and found the service cheerful and accomodating, no waiting, food yummy. Good one!

Nobody came to take our order and nobody appeared to be interested in serving us. Then we see on menu we order food at bar. American waitress chewing gum…ewww!
Meal was okay but one in our party had the chicken strips…cooked to a crisp and revolting! Would not bother with this place again. AND it was dirty!

This was the main restaurant at Ascot not Emberz.
MOTHERS DAY:
1.Luke warm food
2.Food not replenished quickly
3.Very poor selection of desserts…only 1 plus rock hard scoops of ice cream
4. Accussed of 1 in our party not paying! OMG we ALL DID but the rude woman serving us at the desk ‘begged to differ’
5. Terrible experience all round and a dissappointment for mothers

What has happened here? I have reviewed this place before and always given top stars but last week not so. The service was excellent as always but the food let them down badly. This was not fine dining and we could have ordered a few of the things at a steak bar for less…and it wasn’t that nicely cooked! Sorry guys got to be honest we didn’t like it and we were a large party. The seafood was great but the rest was just okay.

Now August 2012: A large party of us went here last night. Great atomosphere, excellent service but STILL it’s very average food! come on guys get this food sorted or don’t advertise as ‘elegant fine dining’

Too much sauce not enough meat! Hard to understand, when asking for gluten free they had no idea what we were talking about.

Food here was not nice. It lacked the actual flavour and there was more sauce than meat. Not a good deal at all.

We ate here this week and they must have a new chef or something as the food was fantastic.

Great service, food tasted fine but we found Duo to be over priced for what it is compared to other places in town that do an equally good job. The place lacks atomosphere we felt and not great for larger parties of people. We usually like small menus but this was just a bit limiting.

Went here with friends 2 weeks ago on a Sunday lunch time. The waitress (who was very hung over)took forever to come and take our orders and when she finally did she was looking into space while trying to write down our orders! One meal was completely under cooked, chips were cold, and we waited forever for drinks too. In the time we were there we saw other diners come and go long before us and still we waited…We did complain! will we go bak? NO

we ate here for brunch on Sunday and we were the only diners. Our service was fantastic, food (a large platter) great but our fizzy drinks were flat, as were the second lot. Not their fault just faulty gas problem. We were given other drinks on the house and all in all it was a pleasant afternoon.

Our party of 7 of us dined here on Sunday night. The place wasn’t full but we were told by a rather rude waitress to move from the table we sat at because it was prebooked….No reserved sign on it however. We were shown to a table with stools which did not suit one in our party with a bad back,thankfully she was able to get a chair. The guys had bangers and mash with an inedible rock hard pastry crust…yuk; the roast came with hardly any gravy and we had to ask for more; my ‘old fashioned sherry trifle’ came in a glass…watery tasteless custard, stale sponge and no sherry to be tasted whatsoever! RIP OFF! my sisters jam roly poly was very doughy and she said it was not nice either. Prices okay but food needs a shake up. This chef has been around for years so you would think he would know how to make the basics like custard, trifle, and yorkshire pudding?????

July Update: Food better tonight except for asking for gluten free and getting a salad full of croutons!

I think the quality of the food had slipped recently. The stir fries seem to be swimming in soya sauce and I don’t like having to keep going up to ask for drinks etc.Service?? none

We went to Buster Crabb recently for a birthday celebration. There were 13 in our party. The food was great although seriously lacking in vegetables. The following are some things we disliked:
1. Nobody greeted us or guests as they arrived so we were all left to figure out where we were seated
2.Lighting far too dim couldn’t read menu hardly
3. Service appalling! My daughter had to get the dessert menus herself for our table as no waitress was to be seen!
4. No wine waiter/ress came back for further drinks orders (sad for them because there were 13 people all needing refills throughout the night)
5. 2 guests had enough of waiting and left without dessert or coffees
6. We even had to wait to pay as nobody came to the check out desk to bill us!
We all agreed we wouldn’t go again.
