For my first ever yum char experience this was an incredible let down. Was seated straight away in a fairly full restaurant but that was pretty much the highlight as it went downhill at a rapid rate from there. We waited for a lengthy period for the first dishes to be brought to us only for the waiters to blurt out in a mannerread more I couldn't understand what they were offering. Every time I had to ask for them to repeat it which by the looks on their faces it was a real struggle for them. Time and time again this happened and time and time again whatever dish we chose to try, the quality was so poor. The roast pork while sizeable was just all fat and solid chunks of bone. The final straw came when I attempted the good old spring roll, never in a restaurant had I tried something that wanted me to throw up immediately but this place managed it. We left straight away with the only other highlight being the mints which we took after settling the bill, they were more than necessary to settle the stomach. If this site were able to give half stars or even no stars then that would be a fairer more accurate description than the one star given. Steer clear. show less
Terrible service, the old lady at reception with short hair should be fired or at least given some customer service training. This is the second time she has been rude to us, and we definitely won't be coming back a third time. The food there is nothing special either, and I agree with the post below - they should get rid of theread more "Chinese vegetables" - or at least make it clear on the menu it is just bok choy. show less
May we start with everyone here whose put 2 or less stars, we completely agree and when reading your comments felt a strong sense of deja vu. And to anyone thinking about dining here - go to DRAGON down the road!!! We arrived at Grand Century for yum-cha (or should I say "yuck-cha") yesterday at 2pm, thinking we would be alloread morewing plenty of time for a quick bite as it finishes at 2:30. When we arrived the lady (who I presume is the manager) snuffed her face at us as if we were a huge inconvenience to them and told one of the workers to set up a table. The waitress brought us the menu and we realised that we weren't going to get the normal yum-cha experience and would have to order off the menu, which was fine as we knew there was only half an hour to go. While walking to our table we noticed how dirty the restaurant was with cobwebs and the fishtank looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. Anyway, I asked the waitress what vege dish she recommends and she suggested the chinese veges for $9 which sounded divine - turns out it was just a whole heap of bok choy and nothing else. She brought over our pork filled pastries which were dry and had obviously been sitting there a while as they were barely even warm. The coconut buns and steamed prawn & chives dumplings were better, mainly to the fact that they were hot and freshly made, as they should be. At this point of the meal (around 2:20pm), we were the last customers left and all the staff sat down and started their lunch, we noticed them looking at us and talking/smirking which was very rude. We had finished and were ready to go, and no-one came over as they were all busy eating. Eventually, the manager came to the till and we said we want a doggy bag for the $10 bok choy and coconut bun (to give to our dog). She snuffed her face up and gave us a plastic container to put the leftovers in. Never in a restaurant have I had to do this myself and feel so unwelcomed - they definitely don't go the extra mile for service here. We feel like we wasted our hard earned money here and our words to the world is Do not go there!!!! show less
